I think he should be commended for saying something! We've all become to complacent these days in a world of violence that happens EVERYWHERE!

Just food for thought, had this not been a hoax and innocent kids and faculty had been injured or heaven forbid worse, killed by someone today officer Mitch would be being hailed a hero for the heads up. Which is way more than any of the school board members bothered to do and because a tragedy was averted, possibly in part to Officer Mitch's post, he's being treated like some sort of pariah instead of the everyday hero he truly is to every child he meets. Please take a step back and realize what you're doing by removing Officer Mitch; Not only are you proving to every child in the Carteret County School System that doing the right thing will only end up coming back to bite them in the butt, so why bother? And I don't know about y'all, but I'd hate having THAT on my conscience! #IStandWithOfficerMitch

Why do people try and fix something when it is not broke. He is great with the kids and they look up to him.

Officer Mitch, you absolutely did the right thing and I want to thank you for stepping up for our kids. The whole idea that ANYONE might hear something like that and not take EVERY precaution to make sure our kids are safe is EXACTLY why tragic incidents like Columbine and Oregon happen. Someone had heard, someone had suspicions but either they didn't say anything or they didn't act in a position of authority. So again, thank you. All of our community should be as open and cautious to make sure our schools stay safe, ALWAYS!

I believe that Officer Mitch acted with the most sincere of intentions in mind. He was acting as a police officer and a father to protect those he cares about most. Faulting someone for that is like faulting someone for being human. He acted out of protective instinct stemming from a sincere commitment to the children he loves and serves.

We has humans are prone to make mistakes. Some big, some small and some so big and bad you don't want to remember or talk about them. So Dear Ms. Principal of WOES, CC BOE and Dan Novey don't let this be your mistake you won't want to talk about in the future . Admit you all have made a mistake and bring Mitch back where he belongs protecting your children, your staff and the community of Cape Carteret. Its ok you can fix this.

Officer Mitch is the example of what a police officer should be. I understand if there is a suspension, but he should not lose his job.

Officer Mitch helped turn this week into one we will eventually forget.......before, it could have been an unerasable tragedy. As for instructional time wasted, it was quite the opposite. Families were able to sit and speak about how to act when "rumors," need to be reported. Our school system is forgetting that these are children that we could be mourning if not for this act of courage. Time is wasted daily in our schools when we treat our children as test subjects with assessment after assessment. Tonight I hugged my children a little tighter. Officer Mitch did what anyone would have done in the face of the decision. It is devastating to see Officer Mitch being shamed in the face of the school system, newspaper, and news. Dr. Novey, it is okay to change your mind and reverse the decision. I fear that elected officials will feel regret when it is time for our community to vote if Mitch is not reinstated to his position. He is the right man for the job! The right decision is always right. Let us all stand on the right side of our children and for our children. Thank you officer Mitch!

Officer Mitch has a heart of gold. He has not only been there for the children but if the school staff were allow to speak they would tell you the same. I'm sure that most of the anonymous remarks are from some of those that wish they could speak out. But if they do they would be in the same boat with Officer Mitch. Through all of this you will truly find out who is for our children and who is about themselves. If Officer Mitch is not brought back that should speak loudly to you parents about the school system your children are apart of. Bring Mitch back.

I'm appalled that Mitch is suspended. He helped inform us, as parents, on what is going on at their schools. He thought about the children and their safety first. We live in a scary world now, it's not as safe as we would like it to be anymore. There are scary people out there. As parents we should be informed!!! I'm glad nothing happened, this time, but what about next time? Is everyone just going to pretend nothing happens until something happens? What if something had happened yesterday?...would officer Mitch be in trouble/suspended for not saying anything? Or would he have to live with the fact that he knew something and didn't say anything at all. I support him and his decision to speak out and watch over our children!!!
