I have a son who will be going to elementary school next year and this is terrifying. #1 that this rumor was even initiated and that my son will at some point have to deal with threats like that in the public school system and #2 because the man that warned about did the RIGHT thing and is now being punished. Whos thinking about our children here!!?? Obviously, officer Mitch and not the higher-up! Everybody cares so much about being politically correct that they don't see good or bad anymore. Put yourself in a parents shoes, and you would be appreciative of that information. If the tables were turned and something DID happen at the school, y'all would not be reacting this way.

This is outrageous! I'm sure all the other parents of other school shootings across the country would have loved to have a warning about their kids safety, even though the shooting didn't occur at any of the Carteret County schools he was just being safe rather than being sorry... Which I know alot of people appreciated!

I stand behind Officer Mitch. My son goes to Bogue Sound Elementary and it's a scary thought that this is happening literally in our back yard, and that we would have been kept in the dark about it. I hope that the right people can see reason beyond the politics, and understand that Officer Mitch is doing what is necessary to protect our community. I stand with our community to help keep Officer Mitch's job safe, just as he has done so much to keep us safe.

I believe it was Mitch - the dad and friend - that posted the now infamous warning. It was not Officer Mitch - on duty, using police equipment - that decided to speak out. Either way I believe he did the right thing for our students, and he therefore has my total support.

I would think he would get praise and not removed. How about the old saying, "better safe than Sorry". Sure , parents and students were scared, that's normal, but, they should be grateful that someone was concerned for them. This man deserves his job back.

Officer Mitch is the best of the best Police Officers I have ever met!! My children absolutely love him as their Resource Officer at WOES! No one else can top him! He needs to be reinstated immediately!!!

"Officer Mitch," over the course of MANY YEARS of dutiful and dedicated service to our school and community, has earned the trust and admiration of children and parents alike. He is one of the most caring, sincere, and unwaveringly good citizens in all of Carteret County; even his recent lapse in judgment was prompted by heartfelt concern for students and fellow parents whom he has protected throughout his career! I fervently urge school administrators to reconsider his removal in light of the broader and truer context of the myriad GOOD he has contributed on behalf of all of us.

Officer Mitch has been an outstanding SRO with White Oak Elementary School, and has been a trusted presence for my son during his 6 years at WOES. I hope that Superintendent Novey will reconsider his ill conceived decision to remove Officer Mitch from the school.

This is ridiculous. What he was doing was only trying to keep students and faculty safe within the school. Whether the threats were real or fake, you should take precaution and treat every one in a serious matter. He did what he thought was right.
