All schools need resource officers. Times are changing, and for some kids, they are the one disciplinary influence there is because teachers' are reluctant due to repercussions.

Unbelievably sad to witness this entire situation. It is hard to understand how a law enforcement agency could willingly "lose" this man. He has proven himself in our community and lives as one of our greatest assets. Those responsible for his professional circumstances should be embarrassed.

My boys now one in middle school heading to highschool and one going into BCMS love office Mitch didn't you give him the job to protect and serve that's what he was doing!

My nephew attends WOES and I for one think the School Board is more concerned about a few students missing school than a whole school being safe! It should always be SAFETY FIRST! What good is an education if you are in danger folks! Kudos to Officer Mitch!

Better safe then sorry! He was just taking much needed precautions! If there was a shooting and students were harmed because he didn't do this it would of been a sad outcome. Thank You Officer Mitch for playing it safe! ! ! We need more officers like you that actually take their job seriously !

Officer Mitch has done so much for the kids of White Oak. I am so disipointed in our school system decision. He should be reinstated immediately along with an apology in the hopes he will come back to mentor our kids.

This situation highlights why WOES stands out as the top elementary school in the region. While the School Board takes the approach that they should have total control over your children's lives at school, the parents at WOES believe differently and rightfully so. It is the parent's job to raise the child, the school's job to teach the child's curriculum, and the police department's job to serve and protect. The Cape Carteret Police Department doesn't tell the school board how to educate and the school board shouldn't be telling the police officer how to serve and protect. I've known Mitch for several years and know his heart for that school and those children. If his experience as an officer told him that public notice was appropriate, who is the school board or Novey to question it. This isn't about what was right or wrong but about control. It is now time to do the right thing by reinstating Mitch.
