We come together to oppose the Portland Human Rights Commission’s endorsement of an outrageous BDS proposal to the city to divest from or boycott four US companies (Caterpillar, Motorola, G4S and Hewlett Packard) due to their sales in Israel.

The silence from the commission is loud lately because they surely know we are watching their every move now. People have been sending me the most intense emails about these companies and I am trying to keep up with all the research while also managing my regular life which is basically just coffee and frantic typing at this point.

Fellow liberals, please stop drinking the Kool-Aid against Israel and really look deeply into the accurate facts and history of this conflict. We human rights activists have been woefully manipulated and misinformed by those whose goal is to eradicate Israel.

Ban the underhanded process of meeting behind closed doors and fire the individuals who tried to sneak this through without public scrutiny. These folks need to learn about democracy, free speech and yes even human rights.

A similar resolution failed in Berkeley, California. Even the Berkeley Commissioners realized that the resolution was one sided, biased and damaging to the local community. Don't embarrass the people of Portland with this. Be on the right side of history

Boycotting businesses that support and do business with the only democratic country in the Middle East makes no sense. And boycotting businesses that are also allowing Palestinians to have decent good paying jobs certainly makes even less sense.

I am a former Portlander, and am outraged at this anti Israel and thinly veiled anti-Semitic hateful proposal. If Portland accepts this law - what will be next: "Kauft nicht bei Juden!" ("Don't buy from Jews!" The Nazi slogan my parents were subjected to.)?

Hate does not belong anywhere in the world, especially here in Portland. The BDS movement: boycott, divestment and sanctions is really a movement of bigotry, dishonesty and shame which is devisive and an obstacle to any negotiated peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israel should be honored for being a light unto the nations....the only democratic nation, innovative, progressive....in a region that is otherwise replete with war, bigotry, hatred and repression. Further, if Portland even considers boycott action, then those voting for the boycott should discontinue using any devices or procedures created in Israel...and that includes computers with Intel inside, cell phone, public water treatment, medical procedures and pharmaceuticals for Parkinson Disease and Multiple Schlerosis, etc. Let's not be hypocritical, eh? I hope that Portland will not become a city to be avoided.
