As a parent I have been diligent about providing my children with sexual education however I am unfortunately the exception. Young people need to understand sex and how to prevent unintended pregnancies. Very proud of my daughter for being a part of this initiative.

Us teens are neglected with the actual health / healthy relationship education we need. In high school I never was in a health class! But was in middle school. That needs to change.

This would be absolutely heavenly for highschool students. Its not even a matter of "we can't, we don't have the budget and its a luxury class." As far as I'm concerned, it should be a core class that is mandatory for every student. So SOOO important!!! I'm very happy that there's a petition for this and I hope it goes through!

As a teen girl I knew nothing about sex or abortions or birth control... I had to find out what sex was about and I was not prepared. I personally think that we should have a sex education program in 9th grade. I'm currently a senior at Crater and this is what my senior paper and project are about and I stand strongly on what I believe

It's 2016.. My parents' generation expected flying cars and manned space travel by now. We aren't even to the point of teaching our young adults about sexual health education. If you ever overhear someone say something to the effect of, " ...well, they're teenagers, they're just going to sneak off and do it anyway." I'd say to them: "Be better than your parents. Empower your children and young adults with the knowledge and tools they need to survive and be successful. Teach our young adults about preventing unwanted pregnancies, how to stop the spread of S.T.I.'s, and so many other things your parents left you to figure out on your own. Remember each terrifying moment you endured evolving your sexuality and know this simple truth: If you avoid bestowing knowledge onto your progeny, for fear of your own discomfort, you have already bestowed upon them the confusion, shame and sorrows you had suffered."
Which of the options would a parent truly pick: A. Awkward discussions about healthy sexual habits .. or.. B. The discussion with your 17 year old, and their Physician, on living with genital warts or life expectancy of an HIV positive 17 yr old in Southern Oregon?
