The last VC gave himself 20K rise while got rid of the Common Room. Great practice!

This is an excellent idea - and hopefully any new Staff Common Room would be a place where ALL levels of staff from right across the University could meet and socialise.

Had some great times in the Staff Common Room in the past, especially on Friday evenings. Got to know staff & PhD students from other parts of the University.

A staff common room is a ubiquitous feature in almost all UK universities, including the Russell Group. The University has made it clear by its actions that collegiality is of low importance to it.

if the VC wants us to bring forward ideas about becoming a world class organisation then he needs to provide the opportunity to discuss across the schools and departments in a informal atmosphere. A staff common romm would be the ideal place to let original concepts germinate.
