We were members of St. Andrew's a number of years ago and found the people and their commitment to social concerns, religious education, spiritually nourishing liturgy a hallmark of the parish. We are saddened by the pain of the parishioners. It is our hope and prayer that the archdiocese will appoint a priest to serve this fine parish.

The entire Brawley family is behind your efforts all the way. So sad to see such a strong much needed program be dismantled without thought of those who relied on it. We can not be there physically but know that we are all praying for a return to normalcy and the good works you have all done throughout the past 4 decades. It is truly a great example of local mission work that reached many in need over the years. Know that through the collection Millions of people across 18 countries have been touched by your good deeds and kindness. Fight the good fight and we will push for prayer chains where ever we are to support from afar. Mom and Dad I am sure are proud of all that you each have done to carry on this important mission work. NOV 10, 2019 — UPDATE: On Wednesday, October 2nd, while protesting in front of Saint Peter the Apostle Church in River Edge, prior to Cardinal Tobin’s “Forward in Faith” presentation to Bergen County Parishes within RCAN, we were approached and asked by Fr. Jason Makarow, to meet with Cardinal Tobin in the rectory. Cardinal Tobin began by saying he was aware of the frustration, we as parishioners were feeling. We informed him about the absence of a priest at the 10:30 am mass on Sunday, September 29, 2019, and that parishioners left angry and disgusted. The Cardinal was interested in hearing our concerns about St Andrews Parish and aware of the frustration and disappointment at not having had a priest/pastor over a year. The discussion centered on needing a full time parish priest to address the spiritual and urgent needs of the parish, as well as the requirements of the Spanish community, to ensure presider coverage for weekend masses or sacraments, address the abrupt closure of the Human Concerns clothing collection ministry, the disrepair of the physical state of the parish, and the about face decision to cancel the Healing our Church program and subsequent listening session. We had a 35-40-minute private meeting, and the Cardinal was very attentive and asked several questions concerning why Human Concerns was shut down and whether we or the parish would accept a first time Pastor. Cardinal Tobin mentioned a young talented, bilingual priest who he was considering, and asked ourselves and others who were there that night if we would accept a first-time pastor. Of course, the answer was yes! We believe assignment of a pastor is the keystone, as all other programs, liturgies and ministries rely on the support and leadership of the Pastor. This ministry has reached people all over the world. This ministry has always been a gift of the heart in donations and service together. When items were sorted and folded with care and shipped around the world, they truly became a gift of Jesus. Don’t let these services stop. We need to be the hands and hearts for Jesus. Never stop. Listen to the people. With God all things are possible. Change your hearts. Find a better way together. You can do this. I believe in the people of St. Andrews. 125 years moving forward can not be stopped. The devil is working hard to destroy what is good. God is all powerful and righteous. Raise Him up.
