3 state electorates - not 1!

How can one member serve the proposed area? It is a tough enough job as it is, what is proposed is ridiculous.

Disgraceful what the government is trying to do. Just another push to try and close down the towns out west. More money to spend on their ivory towers.

We definitely do not need to have Charters Towers included in the Mt Isa electorate. We do need effective representation and this will never occur under the proposed changes. The only way to achieve effective representation for the North West is by having 3 Electorates, 1 based on Mt Isa, 1 based around Cloncurry to Hughenden and 1 based on Charters Towers. It is shameful of both LNP and Labor to push for the marginalisation of North West and Western Queensland. It is entirely shabby tactics like this that cause people to vote in ever increasing numbers for minor parties and independents as LNP and Labor continue to prove neither can be trusted.

We need 3 electorates, not 1

We have now gone from 5 regional remote electorates to 4. These electorates cover the largest and most remote areas of the state. In other words this means less state representation for Queenslanders living in regional & remote Queensland. I'm disgusted with the changes

How ridiculous - I'd like to see SEQ politicians being asked to cover this kind of country - there'd be no way they would do it. Hope some commonsense prevails and we receive more representation.

If this were a strategy to get rid of state governments, I would support it, but if not, we need more electorates, not fewer.

Couldn't agree more. We need more representation to cover this area in the traditional way. Have a State Gov plane based in the huge electrolyte to be able to have fair representation. It takes about 9 hours to go from east to west on the flinders highway,no stopping on way to meet the people and discuss their concerns etc.

More electorates, more voice for the bush. Mount Isa's mining priorities are different to rural needs.

Anything short of 3 representatives has the potential to adversely impact any number of stakeholders and industries. Having less than 3 representatives sets the individual representatives themselves up for failure, with a knock-on effect for the regions. The sheer size, diversity and geographic dispersion of the region, requires specific attention and representation from individuals who have the depth of knowledge required to identify synergies, collaborate and advance the infrastructure and industry of the region, for all community and interest groups. Rationalisation often seems like a good, cost-efficient strategy on paper with various opportunities to leverage. But at what long-term cost? It is a strategy that - in my opinion - regularly fails to drive sustainable, long-term growth strategies. Take a look at the business case studies from organisational transformations. In most cases, there is a direct correlation between the quality of outcomes and the number of direct reports, areas of responsibility and accountability, one person has. The fewer the representatives, the less focus there can be because they will struggle to keep up with both competing and complementary issues and opportunities. Additionally, they can burn out faster which leads to churn. Churn results in a lack of productivity and so it goes. Perhaps those considering this rationalisation should take the time to analyse lessons from domestic and international industry? If that doesn't convince them, perhaps a look at the reversal of some of the decisions of government here and abroad, might help? It seems to me that less representation = less focus = less achieved = poor outcomes. I vote for 3 rep.s.

We need extra electorates to reduce the massive size so we can have serious representation from our elected people, increasing the size o of the electorate won't give the people a fair go.

There is area outside of Brisbane but labor don't seem to realise that

Western Queensland need more representation not less. We get the raw end of the stick as it is. 80% of the states revenue come from out west in the way of mining and the DICKS in the south east can not even supply essential services like medical, dental, and decent schooling. Instead they are trying to kill the small towns by making people have to send there kids to boarding schools in larger towns. They just keep cutting services.

Almagated shire would make the area to big to manage efficiently. Almagation also creates jobs losses within our local communities.

Mad idea to make one supersized electorate in western qld. No possible way one person could adequately address the needs of the people out here
