The People’s Republic of China has a history, reaching all the way back to its foundation, of human rights abuses. And now this so called communist nation is prolonging the genocide in Darfur by continuing to buy oil from the Sudanese regime, and to sell them weapons. These are then used to slaughter people in the western region of the country, known as Darfur. In addition, the regime of Sudan still continues to equip the Janjaweed militia as a semiautonomous tool to aid in the destruction of villages, the murder of civilians, the coordinated rape of women and girls, and the forced displacement of the remaining citizenry. We can only imagine that most of their weapons come from the People’s Republic of China. The Chinese have used their seat on the UN Security Council to press for some limited peace measures, for which we want to be thankful, but the genocide continues due to a lack of action, not just on their part, but on the part of the entire international community. And it continues to use Chinese money and weapons. The United States has no business encouraging this destructive behavior, as well as many other human rights violations by the People’s Republic of China, by continuing to import huge numbers of their luxury items at a cheap price; and just as low of a price can be found by relocating those facilities to other countries which require lower wages than the US, such as India (with a workforce numbering in the hundreds of millions). Therefore, we insist that the US impose tariffs on all Chinese made goods, equivalent to the amount of money it would take to pay an American to manufacture the same product. That way more money will be entering the government coffers from a non-taxpayer source, and both china and the corporations will find it uncomfortable to continue business as usual. In addition, we insist that the US refrain from any further borrowing of money from the Chinese, and instead focus on reducing the deficit and finding other sources of loans in the event that money needs to be borrowed. It is our hope that this will encourage our corporations to stop buying from China, and encourage China to abstain from any other gross violations of human rights, in Darfur and elsewhere. Sincerely, [Your name]
