The people of Burma are being brutalized by an aggressive military regime which denies them the most basic freedoms and counters any protest with extreme violence and torture. China has blocked UN sanctions against Burma and, despite being its most influential neighbour, has apparently done nothing to exert pressure on the Burmese generals.
