We Love Fredericksburg

As a life long resident and family ties to land and businesses here in Fredericksburg that go back several generations, I find this bill and its regulations unconstitutional to property owners. This would take away the rights of property owners and options for those who live here, and those have been gifted their property by their hard working families throughout the generations as well, including my children and grandchildren. Fredericksburg is mainly sustained through tourism as we found out during Covid, by putting a stop and a moratorium on STR's we are just hurting ourselves and our own economy. The potential of this bill has already hurt the investments in this town and the sales of real estate have dropped significantly over the last few months. Real Estate and construction are the first indicators of a healthy or unhealthy economy, as we all remember living through 2008, the trickle down effects may not be immediate but they tend to follow the trend of both those sectors. This is why I vote no for the bill, the moratorium, and the restrictions. A better solution can be achieved I believe, but it's not at the price of property rights.

The present ordinance is fully sufficient when adequately and fairly enforced. The city does not need to confiscate more of our property rights.

Basic rights. Even the consideration of such a rule is a step in the erosión of basic American freedoms fought and bled for. Please reconsider

As a third generation Fredericksburg native with deep roots in real estate, property ownership, development, and property management in Fredericksburg and Texas, it saddens me to see what the newcomers are proposing in regard to STR’s. The proposed regulations are unconstitutional and take away basic property owners rights. Yes, there needs to be balance and harmony between STR’s, long term rentals, and individual homeowners; but I can assure you that the people of Fredericksburg will not stand for their property rights being taken away.

Definitely would be a loss to limit rentals.

Strengthen the ordinances and require owners/renters to acknowledge them but don't take away individual property rights.

Must have people from California on the city council or planning commission pass it and I will not be back . There are to many other nice Hill country town that will take my money.

We think the best first steps are strict and fair rule enforcement. This petition is NOT proposing a Cap. But, the proposed solution to a Cap in the petition, if a Cap is instituted, at least attempts to treat all owners of property in Fredericksburg equally and attempts to afford Constitutional due process to settled, vested property rights. Rights recognized/authorized by the City itself, in the two ordinances that were passed. And, the goal of the petition is for no one who has operated a BnB management business, or started a business to take care of lawns, or offers maintenance and repairs, or has started a wine-tasting limo business, or has purchased property under rules dating back to 2013 (as revised in 2018), et. al., will wrongfully have the rug pulled out from under them after following all the rules and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and paying millions of dollars in personal property taxes and hotel occupancy taxes that non-str owners do not pay. Instead of an illegal moratorium (my way or the highway) or clever (non-transparent) code changes to take away settled property rights over time, why will the str opponents not propose something that they do not completely like, but it indicates they hear others and that their proposal attempts to address the perspectives of those with different views on this issue? Why would the City not first enforce the rules, conduct an economic impact study relating to str's, and move far down the road in a new Comprehensive Plan for the City, BEFORE pushing many of the untenable, and legally invalid changes they are now proposing? Finally, why are the str opponents not also proposing a moratorium on wineries or wine tasting venues or new restaurants/shops on or near Main Street or limiting the number of gatherings at Markplatz--all the very things that create the demand for well-managed str's?

We love Fredericksburg. The petition was written to give voice to all those in the community that understand the value of str's in Fredericksburg. Many locals have signed. Hearing from visitors is also a wonderful reminder that our city is not ours alone. This petition offers a solution on caps, if the City decides to move that direction. If we had not proposed a cap, we would have received hundreds and hundreds more signatures. Many str owners, and other groups, have taken the position that there should be no CUP, no Cap, no moratorium and have told us they would sign only if we took out proposed solutions that addresses concerns of our neighbors. This is no way to live together. It is similar to those proposing a moratorium or a disguised shut down of str's through re-zoning and "good planning practices." One-sided views on both sides are not constructive and will not bring our community together.

We love Fredericksburg! We've been coming since 2014 when we discovered the quaint town. Banning STR's will only hurt the town's economy when people go to other Hill Country towns instead. We don't stay in hotels and prefer the comfort of a STR's as if we were at home.

We enjoy Fredericksburg and what it has to offer, but can only stay a couple days at a time. Please don’t destroy this!

Having wonderful rentals & B&B’s is a great enticement for your community. Please do not place restrictions on these!

Give self enforcement and code enforcement of the current ordinance a chance.
