I am making this petition to get everyone the basic dental care they deserve. What is the first thing people notice about someone, their smile. I believe everyone has the right to have the opportunity for healthy teeth. Also it is proven that tooth pain is one of the worst types of pain. And unhealthy teeth can cause a plethora of physical problems, such as Cardiovascular disease: In a nutshell, this means heart disease. The bacteria from inflammation of the gums and periodontal disease can enter your bloodstream and travel to the arteries in the heart and cause atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). ... This can cause an increased risk of heart attack or stroke.

Dementia: The bacteria from gingivitis may enter the brain through either nerve channels in the head or through the bloodstream, that might even lead to the development of Alzheimer's disease.

Respiratory infections: The Journal of Periodontology warns that gum disease could cause you to get infections in your lungs, including pneumonia. While the connection might not be completely obvious at first, think of what might happen from breathing in bacteria from infected teeth and gums over a long period of time.

Diabetic complications: Inflammation of the gum tissue and periodontal disease can make it harder to control your blood sugar and make your diabetes symptoms worse. Diabetes sufferers are also more susceptible to periodontal disease, making proper dental care even more important for those with this disease.

Brushing and flossing is not enough. Everyone deserve to be able to get at least 2 yearly deep cleanings, extractions, fillings, root canals, caps, dentures, braces, retainers, gum disease treatments, emergency dental. If more people could keep a healthy mouth, we could possibly lower other physical problems.

I completely agree. I as a child could not get the proper dental care and suffer tremendously from it as an adult. I have to make cuts else where in my budget to be able to pay for emergency visits to the dentist and can not afford to get it here in the US. I resort to go to Mexico for all my dental needs and still can only afford it by making cutts in my budget to care for my children. We need to be able to get affordable dental care for the entire family. Now I truly believe I have had so many asthma symptoms as an adult because of it.

As of recent, I have known for a while that I had a couple teeth that needed filling and a couple that need root canals, and now because I have not been able to get it taken care of, I have 3 teeth that need to come out, 2 they will try to save, and I have periodontal gum disease, the last week my bottom teeth are in such extreme pain I cannot even begin to describe, I don't want to talk, eat, move, causing head aches, and ear aches, I have 4 kids and I cannot even tend to them like I need to. This is honestly the worst pain I have ever felt, even with having 4 kids. I am going to try to go into an emergency dentist tomorrow and hope there is something they can do, I am to the point I don't care if they just take all 5 bad ones out. 4 of which are my two molars on the left and right bottom.
