As a person whose family arrived in Canada two hundred years ago I am appalled by all we have done to harm the FNMI people in Canada and believe in the goals of the TRC. I want to make things better. She is disregarding thousands of witnesses' evidence and disrespecting all they have shared. Taking children from their homes forcefully was bad enough - but it was much worse for most and with the aim of eradicating their culture. I accept responsibilities for this and if she can't, she must get off the committee and out of the senate. We are all treaty people.

So disgraceful.... beyond disappointed by the words and actions of this woman. Proof that white supremacy is still a driving force in Canadian politics. This needs to end.

The underlying tone of racist thought in her words are not fitting of a government that seeks reconciliation with Indigenous people.

Residential schools were one of the biggest failings of the Canadian Government and it is a insult to the Native American community to say otherwise. She should step down because she does not represent Canadians.

What's really worrying is how many people this senator's careless words have emboldened to deny the effects of residential schools. Someone who clearly hasn't informed herself of the issue shouldn't be in a position of power.

Senator Beyak should resign and spend time to get educated on social issues and historical documents of residential schools.

There is no room left in Canada for systemic racism. It trickles down from the top and Justin Trudeau is just as guilty as this senator. Indigenous peoples in Canada live in 3rd world conditions and I am ashamed of that fact.
Ignorance should not impede Reconciliation.
