Senator Beyak's comment show an appalling lack of understanding of the history of the attempted genocide of indigenous people in Canada. No one who holds these sorts of racist views should be sitting in on the Senate Aboriginal People Committee, let alone in the Senate itself.

We need forward thinking people who are open to reconciliation between Canadians and First Nations people. There is no room for Beyak's ignorant attempt to minimize the atrocities of residential school.

Someone who never attended a residential school can not speak to any "good" that may have come out of it. She is insensitive, white privilege and should not be allowed to continue with this position. She has done enough harm and shouldn't be given the opportunity to do more.

She should be fired immediately and given no pension. She is racist and uneducated about the genocide in residential schools. Shame on Canada.

She needs to learn and accept the truth. No place for this level of ignorance serving on behalf of indigenous relations. No trust here.

Your comments make me embarrassed to be white. Your representation of white Canadian women is appalling and makes me feel sick. Step down and shut up.
