We demand the resignation of Senator Lynn Beyak and issuance of a formal apology.

Political perspectives like this one more than minimizes the ruinous effects of Residential School policies, they try to cloak the intentions of the Crown and churches to erase indigenous peoples of this land now called Canada. Comments like, "All lives matter" and "some slave owners had good relationships with their slaves" are in direct opposition to truth telling and reconciliation. You are hijacking this process and need to step down from public office!!!

What she said is wrong. If she can get away with saying it next thing you know they will chipping away at what we got left in our heritage culture and our way of life

This is totally unacceptable behavior by Senator Beyak. Get her out of the senate and off of the Senate Committee of Aboriginal Peoples as she is in denial of the reality of what happened to children at the residential schools. Denial is just not acceptable in this day and age.

Totally unacceptable. While some of my relatives were conditioned to feel that residential school was an ok experience from fear induced religion, others were sterilized.

Ms. Beyak clearly lacks both the education and attitude necessary to serve her fellow Canadians as a Senator. She is better suited to the role of student- subjects like remedial Canadian History and Trauma 101 would be good starting points.

Attitudes like this hurt Canadian society, law and integrity. Senators should represent all people and have a strong understanding of history and contemporary effects of colonization. If competencies of senators are not reflecting this knowledge, and clear evidence they are not competent to represent Canada's interests. She should be removed or resign.

She is clearly ignorant on the issue and totally insensitive to all of residential school survivors.

I teach history at the UofT and I would fail someone who said the stuff you said about residential schools. Hateful and willful ignorance. Very shameful.

I am writing to add to the voices that are asking for you to apologize for the comments you made in the Senate about residential schools and for your resignation. Your said, “kindly and well-intentioned men and women... whose remarkable works, good deeds and historical tales in the residential schools go unacknowledged for the most part and are overshadowed by negative reports.” History is not kind. Individuals, well-intentioned or not, get caught up in large-scale events that have widespread effects on entire generations. When those affected by these events come forward, at tremendous personal and emotional risk and cost, and say, this event destroyed us, this event harmed and killed thousands of us, broke our families, communities, spirits and hearts, and the pain it caused continues today, nothing, absolutely nothing else, matters. Those of us who did not live through the event, who were not affected by it and whose ancestors were either directly responsible for the event, complicit in it, or even ignorant of it do not get to play devil’s advocate. Our job is to listen, to acknowledge and to right the wrongs. In the specific case of Canada’s residential schools, where our government has acknowledged that the function of the system was to destroy aboriginal culture, that this was a deliberate, state-sanctioned strategy, and where a Commission was held out of which came ninety-four recommendations that have barely begun to be implemented, there is no room for speaking of anything other than the horror and sadness, no room for anything other than sorrow. I know many people agree with what you said. But they are not Senators. I would expect a Senator to have enough critical thought to understand the inappropriateness of trying to redirect this conversation, and to have the emotional depth to foresee the pain those comments would cause. I am offended that this ignorant and insensitive person supposedly represents Ontario, and it is positively ludicrous she sits on the Senate committee of Aboriginal Peoples. And they wonder why so many Canadians think the Senate is so atrocious it ought to be abolished.

That is beyond deplorable, unconscionable and if she's not fired, fined and should be jailed.....then this country has gone to the dogs. Between her and trudeau it's literal !!!
