Lynn Beyak displays an astounding ability to dismiss the generations of people who suffered and continue to suffer from residential schooling. This kind of ignorance shouldn't be endorsed by anyone and it definitely shouldn't be coming from a person in this position! Send an important message to all Canadians, particularly First Peoples and fire her immediately.
My taxes should not fund ignorance. RESIGN, APOLOGIZE sen. BEYAK!

A person in this position of Senator making such a statement about the treatment suffered at residential schools had no comprehension or compassion on this matter--"it will go away soon" .

Senator Beyak: Shame on you for minimalizing the cultural genocide and horrid things done to innocent children. A formal apology is due as is your resignation from the office you hold

While I usually appreciate the effort to look on the bright side of life, in the case of the residential schools, it is not appropriate.

Sorry, but we need persons in positions of authority to understand the egregious effects of colonial laws and policies set to annihilate an entire Indigenous population, and the current effects of these hegemonic attitudes. Clearly Ms. Beyak, you do not. Please resign now and take pause to educate yourself and reflect on your colonial state power and privilege in the country, then, as a good Canadian, take steps to correct the oppressed status of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

There isn't any good that came from stealing children away from their homes, family, way of life and deeming their beliefs as invalid and evil.
Her ignorance is proof we need to be educating ALL AGES about this very dark part of Canadian history that still echos today with the residential school survivors

Beyak on the Senate committee of Aboriginal Peoples undermines the good it does for Canada. This senator seems clueless or deliberately racist, and in either way ought to step down for the good of the country.

It is sad to see someone to trivialize this dark page of our history and try to rationalize it as being a good thing. It's a slap in the face for the Truth and Reconciliation process.
