This is the worst demonstration of whitewashing of the hell that residential schools were for so many Indigenous peoples. As a member of the Senate - the place of "sober second thought" - Ms. Beyak has no place and no business in espousing her view that there was a "good side" and that residential schools provided some "good" for Indigenous children. There is NO good that comes from disconnecting children from their families, homes and cultures. Not EVER.

Senator Lynn Beyak has no comprehension surrounding the issues involved in her job on the committee for Aboriginal peoples, and has displayed a considerable lack of understanding and/or compassion regarding the multitude of horrors that were occuring daily in Residential Schools.

It's timely that we at this point print off the petition and mail it to the Prime Minister. This kind of sentiment is setting back any type of progress being made by the Liberal Government to improve indigenous relationships in the country, although she is a Conservative, we as citizens really need to ensure that this kind of out-dated thinking be replaced by open minded leaders with tolerance, education, and understanding of Nation to Nation relationships of Indigenous Canada to the Government of Canada.

This person should not be in the Senate. It should serve all of Canada. Her presence is an affront to the people of NW Ontario. Ideas as twisted as hers are why indigenous adolescents are still dying in Thunder Bay. An why it's ok to fatally injure indigenous women when they.are walking down a street In Thunder Bay

Ms. Beyak, as her uncommonly ignorant remarks in Indigenous and LGBTQ people indicates, fails to meet even the most minimal of standards expected from a member of the Canadian government and should resign. An apology would allow her to slink away without complete disgrace.
