We demand the resignation of Senator Lynn Beyak and issuance of a formal apology.

Beyak has no place representing Aboriginal people in Canada. She needs to be removed immediately.

I wrote to her office directly weeks ago calling for her resignation. How infuriating when she continues to publicly state that she is getting "lots of support" and sees no need to resign.

I am a residential school survivor, my parents and their parents also. How can she even think for a moment that any good come out of ripping us out of our homes and the loving arms of our parents, to be sexually abused as I was? Resign you heartless creature, I will pray for you...

The very intentions in which Senator Beyak claims were in good faith were to destroy our culture, language, worldview, and very essence as First Nations people. No matter if educators directly perpetrated the horrific crimes to children in which many residential school attendees suffered, every one participated in the colonialist, racist, and genocidal practices through the very purpose of residential schools. To deny that is to deny any wrongdoing at all and to deny the pain our people and communities are still faced with to this day. Free speech involves being responsible for the opinion one expresses, and Senator Beyak needs to be held responsible for her words by resigning from a committee that is intended to benefit Aboriginal people, not continue to deny and reinforce the injustices done to us in this country.

Apologize and resign please. I am an intergenerational survivor - both paternal grandparents went to residential school. This resulted in our language and culture being decimated as well as other negative effects. I cannot think of anything good that came of the residential school experience for our family.

Her ignorance knows no bounds. If she was willing to be educated, I wouldn't be so upset. She clearly stated today that she knows enough on the subject. Therefore, she needs to go and stop living off my dime.

Ms Beyak's remarks about residential schools are as horrid and absurd and profoundly mistaken as if she were making the same remarks about the Holocaust.

Your stance is hurtful and unethical and demonstrates your inability to effectively serve in a public office. Our children are required to learn about the history of Canada's colonization and genocide, yet a public official refuses to learn or put effort into reconciliation.

Her words further genocidal sentiments and practices. She is not welcome.

Such a disgrace that this woman holds a position that "represents the people." Clearly her life-long privilege has tunneled her vision, and incapacitated her empathy.

Resign. Your words, attitudes, and words are disgraceful, disrespectful, and simply unacceptable.

Since you're not willing to learn, please step aside.

There was absolutely no 'silver lining' when it came to residencial schools... aka children death camps. Just for even saying something so ignorant it is obvious that you do not care for our aboriginal people.

This woman has no right to being a senator. Her insensitive remarks are intolerable.

A senator who can't bother to condemn one of the most shameful parts of Canada's history doesn't deserve her taxpayer-funded salary. Children were kidnapped, forcibly separated from family, sexually and physically abused, starved, and suffered high death rates due to medical neglect, and Beyak's concerned about not forgetting that some of the perpetrators were well-intentioned? This is a stunning demonstration of willful ignorance and an insult to both the survivors of those schools and the children who didn't survive. Residential schools were indefensible. That's not up for negotiation.

It's time for Lynn Beyak to get over it and move on to work she is more suited too.

She needs to resign from the Senate immediately. I believe Indigenous survivors of the IRS when they testify to the devastation wrought by this school system.
