As an Indigenous educator, I do not recall reading any history books in university that suggested faculty and admin at residential schools were "well-intentioned". Administration followed government orders and faculty were those not good enough to teach anywhere else.

Senator Beyak needs to unpack her whiteness and acknowledge that her comments are hurtful to First Nations people who either survived Residential schools or have family who did. As a white person, it is not her place to decide how her comments are felt by First Nations people, and there is no excuse that gives you the space to occupy an ignorant space in the TRC. Senator Beyak, you will always occupy white space, and you are just another white person telling Indigenous people what is good for them. Hit the road because you are unable to listen, and you have desecrated the TRC.
