The views held by, and openly expressed by Senator Beyak have no place in positions of authority within the government. The structural nature of colonialism and neo-colonialism is precisely what perpetuates harmful actions, like those perpetrated in Residential Schools. Her delusional idea that she 'suffered with them, more than they could know' is disgusting and ignorant and speaks to the privilege she has of not having a clue what suffering is about. Survivors suffer everyday from the consequences of these schools. No one needs to see a person in a position of power and authority undermining their experience, and proposing that we 'celebrate' the good deeds of teachers and people who worked in these schools. This attitude shows a lack of understanding of the structural problems posed by the schools, which shows that she is completely unfit for a job in the government, especially on the heels of the TRC. She clearly isn't paying attention.

Please resign Senator Beyak.

This person is a disgrace and an embarrassment. She must be suffering from early dementia and is incapable of performing her duties or maybe her real estate training hasn't given her the capability of good sense.

This woman is an embarrassment to our nation and an insult to every single residential school survivor! Shame on her.

I heard this great comparison today, on the radio. Unfortunately I missed who said it, but I believe it was one of your senator colleagues: "We don't ask Americans to forget 9/11. We don't ask [Europeans] to forget the world wars." Why should we forget the damages of the residential schools, or worse, whitewash it with the "good" things that happened? The bad far outweighed the good in the residential school system.

Dear Senator Larry Smith, Senator Lynn Beyak's comments have reached across the Nation causing insult to all Canadians regards to the injury of Residential victims and survivors. The Senator's lack of insight and insensitivity coupled with persistent ignorance are reminiscent of dangerous attitudes displayed by similar individuals in leadership roles who have rightfully been removed: "Why didn't you keep your legs together?" Justice Robin Camp asked a rape victim. How can truth and reconciliation ever evolve with the likes of those glaringly oblivious to the suffering of others? Lynn Beyak lauds Residential Schools and bases her knowledge upon a double-date as a teenager with an Indigenous male. Negating a history so cruel and morbid that countless lives ended and generations continue to be negatively impacted today. Like the "Famous Five" celebrated as Human Rights' champions - the fact only a select group were advocated for - is completed hurdled. Meanwhile, the same individuals were Eugenicists signing off on the sterilization of others! Please remove Senator Beyak as a demonstration of solidarity and respect to Residential School sufferers.
