Until Washington Redskins in Washington D.C. change....why should we? Plus Saranac is an Indian name to begin with. Let's stand up for our tradition & let outsiders go somewhere else. If you try, you can be offended by everthing!!! .

It is very disheartening these days that no matter what you do or say it offends someone. I have always thought of the Redskin as a brave fighter.....why is that offensive? Saranac has other issues they should be concerned about.....why not wait until it is mandated from the state or federal government to change. Is Belding changing? Is the Washington Redskins changing? Just my thoughts!

I don't want the redskins to change . The town is named for an American Indian. The towns name was changed from Boston, to Saranac. Because of an indian . Then they kept Boston as the township. . There was a purpose. In doing that. And for naming the redskins. I'm from the class of 79. And there has never been. Or will be the thought of down grading making fun of any Indian tribe we are always proud to be from Saranac and be called a Redskin. And I'm speaking from experience because my family heritage is American Indian.

Plz don't change the redskins mascot the town is named for an American Indian. So the mascot should represent the town .

How about focusing on making the sports teams competitive rather than arguing over a mascot. Any sport that involves a ball is too big of an obstacle for the student "athletes" to overcome. If it wasn't for the track and field and cross country teams, they should just shut down the athletic department.

The Redskin mascot and name are a tribute, an honor and should NOT be changed because someone thinks it's offensive. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. What American Indian has stepped forward and said they are offended?

Becoming a place of "not offending" someone is more important to fight for what is right. Redskin, an often word used while residing in Saranac years ago was said with PRIDE. Chanting loudly at football games, bonding with friends to beat the other team. It's what sports are about, someone wins and someone loses. The Village of Saranac may not be known to others out of state, heck not even those in the state of Michigan. But to eliminate history, eliminate memories because the word Redskin was never brought up to offend but to defend. Defend against other schools in sports, band or 4H. I suggest you get to know the Village of Saranac and believe that the term Redskin is said with PRIDE.

More trumped up controversy in our community is not helpful. We are a great little town that is in need of time for healing.
