Petition for Focusing on the Children

My family lives in the Ross Valley School District but I have lived on the area more than 50 years. I support this petition strongly.

Ridiculous for anyone but our immediate community members to have a say on the name of OUR school and district!

I have lived in TL for almost 50 years. Both my children (now 52 and 49) went through Dixie schools. It has always been a great school district. Let’s stop this nonsense and focus on educating our children!!! There is so much turmoil natuonally, we don’t need it on the local level.

It will always be Dixie to me.

I grew up in San Rafael of Southern parents and never once felt that Dixie School District was a racist name. Quite the opposite, my parents taught me the value of diversity from a very young age. This campaign is a mis-guided effort to use an old and well respected School District to further petty political aims. These people should be ashamed!

Don't make up a problem where none exists

Don't waste District money on this non-sense!

I grew up going to schools in the Dixie School District -- Don Timoteo Elementary and Vallecito Junior High. I finished high school at TLHS (San Rafael School District). The Dixie School district was not named after a racist group. Nor has it ever excluded or disrespected any race, nationality, religion, etc. Please do not waste funds that are needed for students on non-issues such as this.

Sometimes a name means more than one thing. The past is in the past. But the name means so much more.

Keep Dixie!

There are girls named Dixie. My daughter's dog is named Dixie. There are women of history named Dixie. There's a song about Dixie. There are cups, plates and paper towels named Dixie. Let's leave it alone and get back to Education and Safety. I grew up in Terra Linda (Bernard Hoffman to TL Class of '76). I am not racist. Tell the Board to drop this and get back to business. As a 2nd generation San Rafael native, I say leave our history in place. This is so off base.

Since school funds will be directly or indirectly diverted from our kids education to make this change, I can't support a name change unless private funds are raised independent from those who contribute to CanDo (similar to the standing desk fund drive). There are most likely grants that could be obtained in addition to donations from those outside the district. Regardless, it will cost twenty to thirty times more than the $10K estimated by the name change advocates. Expecting the district to fund this is a non-starter.

The cost to implement a name change would be better spent on our children’s educational experience. Focus on what’s important.

This is just another power play by control hungry liberals. I'm not sure how they can even find a way to not offend themselves. There must be something about themselves that they need to change but they just won't listen, lol

I live in the Dixie School District. My son went to school here. I've always thought Dixie was a sweet name. It seems light, playful, and child-friendly. I've never associated it with anything negative.

Taking money away from the students to pay for lawyers - this is ridiculous.
