It should be taken into account if those wanting to change the name are oringnally from the town. It sounds a lot like gentrification is taking over if you ask me.

I don't live there now, but I used to. I support this positive action and oppose the ridiculous and hateful energy put into the petition to change the name. I'm sorry this is even an issue, and I'm sorry some philanthropist is willing to spend money on this instead on the critical and dire needs of the living people in this community.

Unreal. I grew up in TL and went to school with many “Dixie School District” kids at TLHS. I played LL baseball for the DIXIE LL which then merged with TLAA and became Dixie-TLAA Little League for which my mother was League President for many years. This is absolutely ridiculous that someone is declaring the Dixie name as racist. Absolutely Ridiculous.

This idea of changing is totally ignorant. Doesn't this man, Noah Griffin. pushing this have better things to do than try to change a name. He is pushing because a black, south issue but Mary Dixie was Indian so now he is disrespecting the Indian Nations. Find some thing better for his time than trying to change a WORD for a school district.

I attended Dixie school starting in 1965 in first grade through Miller creek and into Terra Linda HS. This school system only taught me incredible values I carry today. To change the name HURTS all my best educational experience.

All 5 siblings in my family attended Dixie Schools k-8. We have a dentist, lawyer, Principal and a special ed teacher. We all believe in equality for race, gender and sexual preference

I have got to believe that those troubled by the name "Dixie" could use their time more profitably by making this debate a "teachable moment" for the student body. Inform the students of the issues, discuss the possible histories of the name, and have the students reflect on it in a paper or a project. Doing so is called "education." What they are attempting is indoctrination.

I do not live in the district now, but my son went to Dixie Elementary School from K-5, then onto Miller Creek. I was an avid volunteer in both the class room and a Parent board member. Never once did I ever hear any concern about the school or district’s name. I’ve been following this story and am appalled with the opposition. I love the idea of letting the community decide. I would vote to keep the Dixie name if I still lived in LV.
