Petition for Focusing on the Children

Hmmmm, so Ms Dixie was a native American woman---we don't have nearly enough Historical inclusion for Indigenous people----DIXIE----I don't think people think of the South----I thought of DIXIE cups... did I spell it right? Who knows----but say, should we make every person named NIXON change their last name because of YOU know who, who lied, cheated and dissed office of the presidency? Wake up People and HONOR the Native American lady and local history----celebrate local history and stop being weird you strange complainers!

Where is the money coming from to do all the signage and community re-framing of this district. We can not even afford to have proper lighting on the stage at MCMS for the Drama department and we are going to spend many dollars on this unnecessary change? Thank you

Keep the name.It was my school district growing up!

I no longer live in the district but have fond memories of grade and middle school there Thank you for sharing facts and taking a stand.

I attended Dixie Elementary, Miller Creek Jr. High and Terra Linda High School. I read the history of the Dixie District on this site and www.dixieschoolhouse.org. 'Dixie' was made of blood, sweat, and tears, not the love of the confederacy. Heck, I lived in Coon Rapids. MN!! Back in the day, men would go to Coon Creek (a creek with rapids) to hunt raccoons for their fur, thus the name Coon Rapids. There is also a Coon Rapid high school. Just saying

I have lived my whole life in Marin County what true Dixie School District and very proud of that! I am now 57 years old I went to Mary silveira , Miller Creek this whole thing really pisses me off sorry for the wording! What's next in Marin? This is ridiculous! They should focus on teaching the kids not causing debates about something stupid and ridiculous like this sorry the messages so harsh but I'm really mad! I am proud to be a part of the alumni of Dixie School District! Dixie is just a name why do people want to complicate things! I know if you took all the people that graduated and went to Dixie School District we could overcome these people are just trying to cause problems and money for taxpayers! I do not live in the Dixie School District area now I'm in West Marin. But still makes me so darn mad! I usually don't get involved in politics but this is heading home to a place I'm proud of and is still a wonderful School District! Go Dixie School District! Don't let this weird thing happen and embarrass all of us!

5th generation San Rafael resident

Almost every member of my family has attended school in the Dixie district at one time or another. My kids are part of the district now. I have only wonderful sweet memories of the Dixie school District and Little League, and my kids are currently making beautiful memories. I'm not sure what it meant when the district was named, but I believe it matters what it means to people now...and to our family it is a wonderful connection to people and a sweet kind community.
