Petition for Focusing on the Children

We need to keep the name. It was named after the Dixie School House per Wikapedia

Until I saw this name change thing on the news I never even thought of the name Dixie as being a negative or racist term. There are much bigger problems in our society then going to the expense of changing the name of a school that was named before the Civil War. I vote NO for this proposal. I have lived in Marinwood for 34 years. My family has lived in Marin since 1905 and first came to San Francisco in 1850. This whole thing is ridiculous.

What's next? Changing the name of Dixie cups?!!! Such a sad distraction....and the children ultimately suffer. FOCUS ON EDUCATION not personal political agendas!!! I'm not in your district, but support your efforts to maintain your name and continue your long history of excellence in education.

Adding the name Mary would clarify that this is named for Mary Dixie and not the confederate south

Changing the Dixie School name is a total waste of time and resources. Will common sense prevail? Doubtful.

I grew up in the Dixie School District and currently live in Marin County

I was taught by Mrs. Leary for 3rd Grade at Santa Margarita. She said the school was named after a Miwok Indian woman, and we went to the Indian mound behind Miller Creek School where the old one room schoolhouse she was the teacher at still stands. Dixie is not a racist trope in this instance, and has been misidentified as such by those who would change the name.

Our local school board was just bullied by radical social justice thugs on a similar issue. They didn't cave in and retained the name of a founding educator.

My niece who lives in the district want on a scream-fest at us [her parents and other family] about the Dixie name controversy. She says nothing matters except that name is offensive to some and that many American Indians were racist and fought for the Confederacy and had slaves [which some did but when you are rounded up and put on reservations it become a complex issue]. I doubt seriously any descendants of slave holding confederate American Indians ever made it to California and helped name this school. We tried to reason with her but she doesn't understand or do reason. So as you can see we are likely doomed if very many of our youth and other citizens think this way. Keep the name as is.

It is time to put an end to all this nonsense. Do we stop teaching history in school?

I find it ironic that Amos Brown, President of SF NAACP is complaining about the name. The organization acronyms NAACP and UNCF both have words that are considered offensive.

Pretty soon will not be allowed to sell dixie cups when will this stupidity stop/
