Slavery in America was WRONG.
Changing the name of an exceptional school district which has never been located in an area of our country where slavery was commonplace and/or has never promoted slavery in its curriculum, policies or school culture is WRONG.
Changing the name will erase/devalue all the good which has resulted from the efforts extended to the children in this area for more than 100 years. This area has been enriched by the reputation of the Dixie School District.
Do not change the name of the Dixie School District. To pursue this action has and will continue to do more harm than good.
Two WRONGS do not make a right.
We have been associated with the Dixie School District as tax payers ,(supporting the parcel tax even when we could claim an exception), parents, parent volunteers and a teacher since 1968.

As a proud alum of the Dixie School District, and father of two children currently enrolled at Vallecito, I emplore the District to NOT change the Dixie name. My request is not due to any allegiance to the name Dixie. It's a request to teach our children how to make the right decision when faced with a challenging issue. It's a request to not bend to the pressure of a woman and her irrational husband, motivated for the wrong reasons, who trumped up a fabricated issue. It's a request to look deeper into the meaning and origin of the word Dixie, and understand it is NOT a racist word, it is not slanderous, and it is not shameful. It's a request to take a stand for integrity, and to not bow to the pressure of a few misguided people with hurt feelings and too much time on their hands. It's a request to use this as a teaching moment to show our children we are capable of hearing different opinions, separating facts from feelings, and not letting a fringe group hijack the meaning of a word and skew it into becoming synonymous with racism. Don't bend to the pressure of a few. Don't change the name!

I hope you are successful in keeping the Dixie name. I received a wonderful education in the Dixie School District and at no time did I tie the name with racism. I have looked into the history of the Dixie School Distrct and it is not tied to racism. I am tired of people bullying others to do something to suit their own personal agenda and this issue has separated a strong community and pitted neighbor against neighbor. The simple choice would be to change the name but it wouldn’t be the right choice. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to stand up for what is right and fighting to keep the name Dixie is the right choice.

I whole-heartedly believe that changing the name of the Mary Dixie Elementary School would be a great dishonor to Mary Dixie's memory and the Miwok tribe.

Do not change the name. We, in this country are getting ridiculous.
Perhaps we should get rid of everything related to DIXIE including New Orleans and Dixieland music. Do they still make Dixie Cups?

I think a comment made by William Dance to refer to the district as Mary Dixie School District is a great one. The school can then be 'renamed' without expense or offense and gives the honor to the Native Americans in this area. Maybe someone could develop a teaching module to teach about the Miwok and their culture too.

My son attended Dixie Elementary and my family has very warm memories of our time there. I strenuously disagree with the renaming of the school and to the identity politics which are no doubt fueling this divisive effort.

I have written a letter to the board, have been in communication via email with Megan.....email to Mary Jane and will discuss with her.....so disappointed as a previous Board member that the current board doesn’t have the gumption to just say...No
I now live in Novato. pPierson and Griffin came to the board in the early 2000.....There was no interest...they got no momentum. The Board moved on( I was on the Board at the time)

I went to Dixie school district. “Dixie Peach” is a skin and hair product specifically designed for people of dark & light complexion,— google “Dixie Peach advertising bergamot”.
