And there are other ripple effects. Dixie Youth Soccer would have to change their name, their branding, their website, all the families would have to purchase new uniforms and other branded equipment.
On a side note, perhaps someone should start a petition to change the name of Dixie Cups?

Again this is a ridiculous issue to be wasting time on. The Dixie name has NOTHING to do with what happened during that time many, many many years ago. The war is over people, Dixie was ONLY the territory not the cause or reason why the confederacy happened. We have proudly supported the Dixie School District since 1978 and I would like for people to take up a cause that is truly important. ( homelessness, after school programs, feeding the hungry, I could go on and one and on. This is not it. No one in the history of the Dixie District has ever walked into Vallecito, Dixie, Mary Silviera, and so on and said "Im not going to send my child to this school it reminds me of the confederacy. That war is OVER and has been for centuries. Stop trying to make a war out of a simple WORD. Keep the name as it is. Our families support the district and the classrooms are filled to the brim. It doesn't seem to be stopping people from sending their children to the schools, and if their is a whacko or two in the bunch we did not want them in our schools anyway. Dixie has ALWAYS been rated very high of the schools in California. Can you imagine what this would cost? Yes it's insurmountable. That is money that should be spent on our students., not on frivolous banter from an ambulance Chaser and a couple of people who blame a WORD for being racist. What is racist is the people who do things like this. Those who comment on how bad their lives were growing up, Im so sorry this happened to you unfortunately we all face issues with racism it's how we choose to deal with them that makes us better. Remember we are NOT defined by the things that happen to us, we are defined by the way we deal with them" I hope this will go away and NEVER be brought up again.

We moved here almost 50 years ago because of the EXCELLENCE of the Dixie School District. Our 3 children, and 2 of our grandchildren have gone attended the schools. Let's keep the name as it is.

The site agitating for the name change has published the names of supporters. It makes a handy list of people who shouldn't be taken seriously on any subject. If this is even on your radar you've got too much time on your hands. Put your time/energy/money into solving a real problem. Embarrassing.

This is taking so much time and effort away from our kids and their education. Money is already being spent that could have paid for teacher salaries, instructional assistants, technology assistance, etc. Keep the name and move on.

I have kids at both Dixie and Miller Creek. My stance is simple -- no public funds should be used on this. If you want to raise private dollars to do so, then no problem, but that seems like money that could be used for education. I'd also encourage everyone in this conversation to be equally engaged in supporting affordable housing programs in our district - Those would have a much greater impact on diversity than the district's name.
