It would be irresponsible to ask parents to chose between education and their families health and safety. distance learning is not optimal for our kids or our teachers, but we have to put their health first. Fuel education doesn’t work for all kids. A big part of school, esp for the younger kids is the social-emotional learning, fuel education forces them in front of computer with learning through slideshows without any interaction with their classmates. Keeping kids apart from classmates is not healthy for them. Hybrid model is ideal but with numbers rising isn’t safe to send teachers and students into the classrooms. All we are asking is to keep hybrid distant learning as an option for parents that are looking for quality and equal education while we are keeping our family safe during this difficult times. Their should be a 3rd option!!!! It is safe for a teacher to teach in a empty classroom and kids learning by watching a live teaching via zoom. It is possible and should be considered.

My biggest concerns include inability to test and contact trace, wasted time on compliance reminders. Outdoor pe/socializing activities should be put in place in lieu of return to school.

Looking back to early summer I thought hybrid learning would be a good solution, With the current increase in positive results I now have concerns.
I understand children need interaction and that was one of the biggest concerns in the spring. With this pandemic we are in the early stages and I believe that positive results will only grow in the fall and winter months
Better to start out safely and start with distance learning, and have a back up plan to implement hybrid learning if positive rates fall.

We are not ready to return to normal. Instead of planning to return to school prematurely, we should put those efforts towards solidifying distance learning capabilities until we are all confident that children and teachers can return to campus without the risk of getting infected.

It’s a terrible dilemma but the health risk is too high right now. Getting sick effects more than one’s immediate family and it slows down the overall process of getting back to (a new) normal.

It is important to survive this year . Being an ICU physician I see the worst of this disease .children will be ok but parents and grand parents may die if they bring covid disease home . Safe distance may not be possible for young ones . So please think again . It is ok for remote education .

You may have seen that the LA and San Diego school districts have just announced that they will offer only virtual classes when school starts this fall. I think they're going to be the first of many. The virus is clearly NOT under control in California. Don't take risks with our kids and teachers and staff! Think how you'd feel if you opened up the classrooms just to have to shut them down again. Be cautious!

Thank you for giving our community a chance to share our thoughts and concerns. In light of our current Covid 19 situation I believe that should start the school year virtually. I am reaching out to you as a mother and as a public school teacher for a neighboring district. I believe that anything but distance learning at this time would be a risk to both students and staff as our Covid 19 numbers continue to rise. I am not alone in this position as L.A. Unified, San Diego Unified, Rialto Unified, Colton Unified and San Bernardino City Unified have all decided to start the year with distance learning. Many have said that Distance learning was not successful but the schooling we offered in the spring was not true distance learning, it was "Crisis" learning. Our hands as educators were tied as grades were not allowed to be lowered in the state as we were trying to keep equity in an era of crisis. However, now our teachers have received professional development, students and parents have become familiar with a distance learning approach and with grades again allowed to be earned I believe that our students will attend school online far more diligently then the spring.
My husband and I are both teachers and would love to be back in person but agree that there needs to be safety precautions in place. At my middle school site we only have 3 day custodians on at a time, we switch classes every 45 minutes for seven periods a day and have an average of 33 students to a classroom. How do you plan to sanitize chairs, push bar doors, bathrooms and keep kids 6 feet apart all the while following the CDC regulations? According to the Los Angeles Times, "California is largely closing again amid a spike in coronavirus cases across the state, as Gov. Gavin Newsom announced statewide restrictions Monday to again halt all indoor dining and close bars, family entertainment, zoos and museums. At the same time, most counties, including Los Angeles, will be forced to shutter gyms, church

It would be irresponsible to open school even in a hybrid model next month with the spike we have had not only in our county but also our city in the past few weeks. While distance learning is not optimal for our kids or our teachers, we have to put their health first. Please consider keeping classes at distance learning until the county safely can reopen to phase 3. A big part of school, esp for the younger kids is the social-emotional learning, and while staying home is not optimal, forcing them to keep apart from their classmates is also not healthy for them.
