Winnifred Beach was my home away from home during my 2 years living in Jamaica and it is so important to the community for it to remain public.

it would be a great injustice to keep locals from using what is rightly theirs as well as visitors from a natural resource of the land.

Can't we leave some things unspoilt? A beautiful piece of Jamaica for us to enjoy. UDC can't manage what they have already. Next thing you know it will be sold to some "investor" with close political ties. Sad that we have no ethics and morals.

There are already too many places I cannot freely go to as a Jamaican in my own country unless I pay through the nose for the 'privilege'. Almost every year, we hear about another beach resort being developed, which means another segment of shoreline being lost for good. What will be left for ordinary Jamaicans if this continues? Or will we all have to be multimillionaires with trailer-loads of foreign currency to burn before we begin to matter?

Thanks to CNN's Anthony Bourdain's timely repeat of his Parts Unknown recorded in Port Antonio, I was enlightened to this as yet another anti- and non-Jamaican move on the part of people who just happen to have money to have clout.
When did money become a citizen of Jamaica? Anthony was right: he'd really have to do a lot of very bad things to be able to live in and claim any part of paradise.
This is beyond ridiculous! reeks of the early beginnings of political genocide because if this is allowed to go forward, it will only seal and guarantee the demise of the rest of the island. Who pays to live where they were born?! Really?!
Portia Simpson-Miller and her cohorts need to be banished from the island.

There is so much more things the government can do to enhance development so why sell out the country's assets

We should not sacrifice the local people's livelihood and enjoyment of the beach. This was land that was given to them. Why is it the government has the right to take it away.
