Too cold and too dark for elementary school kids to go stand at the bus stop that early. It will also increase costs significantly for some of us who use after-school homebase but not before school.

Extremely short-sided proposal and impacting our young students to accommodate our young adults preparing to enter the real world makes little sense. If there is a solution that allows a later time for HS students go for it, but doing it at the expense of the elementary kids makes no sense.

I do not agree with changing the elementary start time. Please do not do this! My son will be crabby every day, and it will mess up sports practices because the kids will be too tired. Coaches can't get off work any earlier! Very bad idea.

While I agree high school students need a later time, I do not feel this should come at the price of the youngest students losing sleep, losing family time after school, extra time in after-care if parents cannot afford to be home so early in the afternoon. I would be okay with a slightly earlier start time, but the best solution might just be to add extra buses for high school.

For many families, we do Que Tal elective Spanish for our elementary students to start their mornings. The current late starts allow our students to focus on a highly challenging topic to start off their mornings vs doing this at the end of the day when their focus and interest levels are low.

Elementary kids needs good sleep, good breakfast and some play time at night with family. Move start time two hours earlier gonna require a lot of families to rearrange work hour, even changing job to accommodate the needs. A lot of after school activities needed to be cancelled, like I have to cancel my daughter's Gym class which she loves. Move to 7:30 also means the young kids will lose the time in the playground during summer since they need to start to getting to ready to bed at 7:30pm. Adding more buses can reach the goal of high school late start, why we should scarify our young kids sleep time, play time, family time?

This adjustment for elementary age students will have a major negative impact and not only for parents trying to coordinate schedules but also for the health of the kids. To set the expectation that a 7 or 8 year old needs to get up and onto a bus before 7 am and be ready to to learn is ridiculous. Of all parties involved young children are the ones who need the most rest.

Please consider later school times for elementary kids...these kids also have classes and other activities in the evening and it would be very difficult to put them to sleep super early in the evening...and this compromises the family time that kids spend with family...

I'm extremely concerned with the lack of consideration the school board has shown regarding the effect of such early start times on elementary school aged kids. Elementary aged children require 10-12 hours of sleep per night. Even considering a 6:30 am wake-up (and it'll be earlier for some depending on bus schedules!), kids would need to be in bed as early as 6:30 pm. How is that feasible at all? Activities for older elementary aged children often do not even start until 8:00 pm and we occasionally are not home until after 10:00 pm. Even younger elementary children often have 6:00 pm activities that last for 2 hours, so they are not even home until after 8:00 pm. There is no way my child can get even 10 hours of sleep under this current proposal.
Has the Board considered the effects of this "research aligned" plan on working parents? Daycare costs will increase, home bases will be overfilled, and parents will get less quality time with their elementary aged children. Parents can no longer rely on older children to watch younger siblings after school, as the younger children will be getting home first. The much earlier start times will require a much earlier bedtime, taking away from family time. When a parent can't get home from work until 5:30 and children need to be in bed by as early as 6:30 - how is this a viable plan for working parents?
Realistically, most kids will not be in bed by 6:30, or even 7:30. This just won't be possible for most families, due to work schedules and activities. This means that elementary students will not be getting the recommended 10-12 hours of sleep per night, which means they will be sleep deprived. That will have a detrimental affect on learning. And moods. And classroom behavior.
I'm also concerned with the later start times for Middle School children. We live in the northwest corner of the district, which means our neighborhood kids have 35-45 minutes from dismissal until home because there are no middle sch

Young children more than anyone need to get a lot of sleep, for their brain to properly function and develop. I feel that the proposed early school start will have an incredibly negative effect on every young child's development. It is disturbing to see that there are people employed in education field that don't realize this.

Please reconsider a later start time- 8:30 for example. Kimberly Lane Elementary raised 55,000 in one week for the coyote dash- I think that we could all come together to raise additional funds if needed to pay for busing.

All school age children should be allowed reasonable start times, ones that fit biological needs, working family schedules, and lives outside of the school/work day. I will happily pay for added bussing. Private school may become an even more attractive option.

I have a 3rd grader and a 5th grader at Plymouth Creek. While I can forsee that I would certainly like my children to be able to start later in high school, I definitely know that I do not want my children to start early in elementary. A 6:45 bus pickup would mean getting my kids up by 6:00 for school! Elementary students have activities in the evening. My son plays football and hockey. In the next two weeks he has weekday football games STARTING at 8:00. My daughter needs every minute of the sleep she gets, and getting her to bed before 8:00 so she can wake at 6:00 for school does not work for our 2 parent working household. I vote for everyone starting later with additional busing. otherwise change nothing.
