Children need time to wake up and have a proper breakfast. Lunch time is so quick at school that breakfast is essential in our house.

From 9:10am to 7:30am, that’s almost two hours change. Elementary families would need to account for two hours of after-school care while losing two hours of family time in the evening for earlier bedtimes. Parents spend less time with their kids at an age when they need it the most. I agree that high school should start later but not the expenses of our youngest students. The school board should find for a better solution.

Would like ALL elementary schools to start at same time...the later start time. Don't agree with having two schools start earlier than the rest, especially when test results from those two schools are lower.

Our little kids require extra sleep and making them get on a bus at 6:45 will not allow for that. They still have homework and after school activities that don't allow them to go to bed super early!

Too early for little kids and busy parents. Makes after school much more challenging for parents. You would need a change to afternoon programs in parallel.

I am all for high school students starting later but am very concerned about the earlier start time for my 3 children that will attend elementary school. I am worried that this will negatively impact their health and happiness at school,

I vote to keep it the same. Ryan Wilson's letter to the board sums up my feelings well - good for him for taking the time to detail the other side of the issue.

Kids and parents have accommodated their school, work and extracurricular activities with current school time, it is not appropriate to change any school start time. Current school time gives enough time for high schoolers to finish HW before little sib's come home. Big kids are great baby sitters for the little sib's. Now we have to pay extra for after school for young kids!

I am very opposed to the change. I try to have my children in bed by 7:30 and yet, the early start time has been a huge challenge for us. My son has special needs and while he is up early, he needs transition time in the morning and with having an early start school, I cannot accommodate. I also have many times ended up sending him to school late because sometimes he just has trouble getting to sleep so early and without proper sleep, it really impacts his behavior. I also am very concerned for the children's safety at the bus stop when it's dark out. I understand that HS children need more sleep but I don't feel the expense of our youngest students.

we would prefer to maintain the same timings for elementary schools. That is 9:00 AM to 04:00 PM

Our family would have a very difficult time with these new start and end times for our 2nd grader. This just does not make any sense. Why punish the little kids?

I recognize there is research to suggests that High School students would benefit from a later school start time. I can also appreciate the current busing strategy may not support simply adjusting the high school start time. I do not, however, believe it is fair or logical to seek to accommodate a later high school start time at the expense of elementary school students. Not only is there research that suggests elementary aged children are adversely affected by earlier start times, requiring my son and daughter to be at the bus stop at 6:45AM (which means getting up at 5:45AM) is not a reasonable solution. If you need to add more buses to accommodate a “research-driven” change for our high school students, then add more buses! Please do not implement a solution that could be detrimental to the youngest minds in our district.

I support earlier start times for elementary schools, but I question is Wayzata accomplishing this with keeping status quo on the bus costs? It's impossible to do - we are a growing district. We Need More Buses to run after 7am for early start times - not stratify same buses to run before 7am!

I don't want little kids to be standing on bus stop at 6:45 in the dark in freezing winter.standing on the bus stop at 6:45 means getting up at 5:00 am because little kids take more time getting dressed and eating...they will reach school hungry and sleepy making the day difficult for the teachers specially kg, grade 1 and grade 2.....

I am against the proposal to move the elementary school's picking up time. Young kids are the population who need sleep most. This has been shown by many scientific analysis. This is the worst for them.

So let's negatively effect all of the children in elementary and middle school because we don't have enough busses allocated to get all of the kids picked up at a decent time? Umm, NO!
Find another solution like contracting for MORE busses. Wow, that was complicated.
A 0645 start time means my kids would have to get up at 0545 and that is ridiculous. What is this "superintendent" thinking? Not a practical solution.
