i support the later start time for high school. Parents that do not have kids in high school do not realize how late they get home from sports and then have 3-4 hours of homework to do. My high schoolers do not get to sleep until 1 or 2 am.

If elemenrtary school starts earlier then little ones will be in school longer and away from families longer. We wake up the little ones every day now! They need their sleep too!!! Under the new proposal the littles will spend time with their families bout 1 hour before gokmg to bed!!!!

I believe the research supports a later start for the high school, however I do not believe research supports an earlier start (as early as the proposal) for elementary. I believe that is a direct result of bus scheduling and not because of research showing 5 year olds should start school earlier. If the district can find a way for all students to start at 8am or later, and still allow high school students to participate in their athletics, that would be great.

The district needs to figure out a way to change the HS start time, but NOT at the expense of all the other schools too! Why not get more buses and go to a 2-tier system to eliminate any school from starting before 8am!

I think most of us agree with the research supporting later start times for high school aged students, but not at the expense of impacting the youngest learners in the district. I am concerned for both my own children and others in the district - having even less time in the evenings as a family, not getting enough sleep, safety issues while waiting for busses in the morning and overall hardship to each and every family trying to puzzle together childcare and activity schedules while balancing the sleep needs and financial impact such a dramatic time change would cause. I am personally very disheartened by this proposed change as we recently purchased a home primarily due to its proximity to an elementary school with a 9:10 start time. I currently have a kindergartener and two younger siblings will be attending school in the coming years - this is our life the district is talking about, and we deserve more time and thoughtfulness to come to a decision that will benefit the learning of ALL students.

my kids currently attend oakwood school. The have to catch the school bus at 7:10am. In order to be on time and have enough sleep, the kids have to go to bed very early. Both my husband and I are working full time. So we have to send both of them to afterschool. They are very tired at the time for pickup. They can only catch up on sleep over the weekends. This is not a very healthy situation for kids whose parents work full time. Also we don't have enough time to spend with your kids. We see the problem already and we are arranging to have kids go home directly from school so that they can have more time rest. I really wish the school doesn't start this early. Thanks.

We purchased our home by carefully analyzing the school start/end times. We looked at Minnetonka and Orono but decided on Plymouth/Wayzata. This is a fundamental shift and I would have never moved into this district knowing this.

It is more difficult to control the bedtime of high school kids. The effect may be that they stay up later. We just started with a kindergartner in this school system. I would consider this a reason to find another school system and move.

The other option is to move the start time for all the 3 schools(Elementary,Middle and High school) by 30 or 45 min, so no kid is standing in the dark when it is so cold and dark outside.
