I am disgusted with the apathy toward black history month that certain people at Wayne memorial have been displaying. Many of the African American students are offended and something should be done!

It's important that the school knows the things they've been putting in the paper are racist and offensive.

First of all, we live in a WHITE MAN'S society and everything revolves around white people, period. This is why they have so much RACISM because white kids don't know about black history, but black kids know about white history. All these white man-made holiday that are celebrated (Presidents's day, confederate Memorial day, Thanksgiving, Christopher Columbus day, St. Patrick day) ask the administrators, to see if he could write a paper on Elijah E. McCoy. This paper should not be for his personal opinion. The teacher that allowed him to print this in the paper should be suspended, black people already have to deal with enough racism at school, racism in the workplace, and allowing racist people to say anything they want. When is enough, enough!!!!

What was said in the Zebra News was uncalled for and the approval of the newspaper should've never happened!

In reading those articles I find it very offensive. Yes there is freedom of speech however in my opinion there should have been "Black" students asked the questions. Or writing the articles. In one there was mention of school being open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, why? His day was made a holiday just like there is a holiday for President's day. These children need to be more educated on what they speak if going to speak. The Trayvon Martin picture was even more offensive. Was that to state that because of the way you dress you deserve unfair treatment? If ANYONE should have been asked about Black History Month it should have been black students especially those that feel that they aren't learning anything but the SAME thing they have been learning about in school regarding black history since they were in elementary school... Heck since I AND my parents were in elementary school. The only thing that may have changed is now they have a black president to add tho the book? And even then he will be added to U.S. History. I'm glad these children are standing up for their voices to be heard.

What the boy said was disrespectful. He does not know what black people went through and still goes through today. We get treated under the boat based off our skin color

I found this article in the paper to be offensive as well. Whatever the paper publishes has to be approved. And this was approved. That says a lot abt the person who wrote it and the person who approved it. ~If u teach the children that this behavior is acceptable there will never be any growth.

This article should have never been released. I feel those in charge of the newspaper knew that this would start a big controversy within the school. This is not ok!

It'd be GREAT if privileged people didn't speak out on issues that MINORITIES go through!!! Just a thought!! It's very hard to understand how we see things when you look at it from your privileged non-oppressed point of view.

Glad we're finally stepping up and doing something about because sitting behind a screen and ranting isn't going to help us anymore !
