I lived in the Chicago area from 1975–2006 and visited Wax Trax many times in the late 1980s and early 1980s. For some of us, the store was a cultural epicenter.

WAX TRAX was highly influential in my love for Industrial and Post Punk genres. I sill have MANY 12" records from that label and still listen to them today.

Iconic place and spent my entire allowance there every month! Landmark Chicago institutions like Wax Trax before it’s all forgotten like so many places :) Like the 3 penny theater across the street!

This place is culturally significant for so many reasons. The story is that building could tell make it worth being preserved.
And it serves as a reminder of a time when people actually had to go out and find the music, not sit in their residences letting algorithms make those choices for them.

I grew up buying my records from this shop. It was an event, something to look forward to. My collection still has the Wax Trax tiny white price sticker. As a young punk rocker this was the spot.
