Growing up in 1980's WV, as lovely a place as it is, I was excited about things to be found elsewhere. Looking through a friend's WAX TRAX! catalog got me excited about seeing, and later moving to Chicago. Industrial Music was strange and exciting, and gigantic to me. Soon after moving there I visited the store like I was making a pilgrimage. And the first show I went to in Chicago was the Bad Livers (sort of a bluegrass/county) at the Lounge Ax, nearly across the street. I paid my $, stepped inside, and the first two people I saw inside were Chicago Industrial giants Al Jourgesnen and Martin Atkins. I wondered if you always ran into your music heroes in Chicago, and I felt like by moving here I made the right choice. I went on to photograph Chicago's music scene for nearly two decades.
A city's personality is at least as complex as a single person's, and I believe doing something as small as designating this building as a historic landmark would draw some well deserved attention to one of the stranger, quirky, wonderful facets of Chicago's personality.

I always wanted to make a pilgrimage to wax trax when I lived on the west coast. But now that I live in Chicago, it’s gone. But I’ve still gone by the building to see just where the most important building is for my music genre. It will always hold a as special place in mine and others hearts.
