Never got to visit the store in its heyday, but looking at my extensive music collection, the Wax Trax label is a recurrent presence. Would love to keep this piece of Chicago music history alive.

I vividly remember visiting Wax Trax! for the first time as a 15 year old in 1985. Bought 'Let it Be' by The Replacements. The store was amazing and opened up all sorts of music for me. Best record store ever!

As a young man living in the Chicago suburbs, going to WaxTrax! Was like a pilgrimage. I would hear so much about it all week that going into the city on Saturday to go to WaxTrax! Was a religious experience. There were no other record stores like it. So many albums and imports not available in the suburbs. I remember the unique smell of patchouli and incense as I browsed the aisles. I always found a special album that no one else in my crowd had heard of yet. I felt excited leaving looking forward to returning again in a few weeks.

It was our routine during college and during the years after graduation to head over to Wax Trax to start our night, wrapping up at the dance club Neo. Wax Trax was the only place to find British imports of music by bands like Joy Division, New Order, Public Image Limited, Bauhaus, Bowwowwow, and so many more.
I still remember the neon JOY DIVISION sign behind the counter on the first floor, apparently created in anticipation of their 1980 tour which never happened due to the death of Ian Curtis just prior to going to the US. Bought my tickets for New Order's 1983 show at the Metro at Wax Trax as well as a poster of the Mo-Dettes.

Absolutely! Chicago was my "dream city" to move to as a teen and young adult, specifically because of Wax Trax. I eventually did move there, but this was after things were gone. Now, I specifically fly to Chicago to see the old Wax Trax bands play in the venus there. It doesn't feel right to see them anywhere else.
