Well-worthy of inclusion as a historical landmark, on Chicago and beyond.

No doubt that Wax Trax had a huge impact on culture in Chicago and ultimately the world. It had a huge impact on me, and so many people I knew.

Purchased my first X album here! Had my first apartment after college in the building on The SW corner of Altgeld and Lincoln Ave. Spent my earnings on albums at Wax Trax and movies at the Biograph Treater.

I worked at a hair salon(Milio’s) in the 80’s and 90’s and loved going to Wax Tracks

Record stores play a HUGE, diverse role in people’s artistic, social and emotional lives. It’s not just a place to buy records - it’s a place to make discoveries, find friends, be inspired, lose yourself and on and on. WAX TRAX is a Chicago and a US treasure!

Travelled from Los Angeles to visit the store and purchase a CD my local store couldn’t get their hands on. Called 4 days before flying to make sure it was in stock and could be held for me. Tag on it said “hold for some crazy guy from LA”

This institution was/is very important to me. It’s one of the things that drew me to move to Chicago over 20 years ago, even after it’s physical storefront was no longer in use. I still smile everytime I walk or drive by. It would be a huge loss for something to happen to such a beautiful building with such important history.

Wax Trax represents a foundational piece of American culture - driving awareness of the music scenes of America and Britain, as well as cementing Chicago on the cultural map along with the other aspect of music and the arts that Chicago has become known for. Wax Trax is a true piece of history and of Americana and deserves to be considered a landmark to be preserved in perpetuity.
