Definitely deserving of cultural landmark status. It was a mecca for many people born between about 1965 and 1980. Filmmaker John Hughes almost certainly modeled the record store in Pretty In Pink after WaxTrax.

This location was literally the second site I visited when I came to Chicago. Although it was a dentist's office at the time, the historical importance was not lost on me.

Music & life would not be the same without this of this store and perhaps more so its label and innovative artists! It so worthy to preserve this richly detailed architecture and its history in the Chicago music scene.

Please keep and continue to preserve such historic places/buildings in Chicago. We’ll never see architecture like again.

I remember going circa 1994. Love the place!
