I lived at 2432 N. Lincoln Ave in the early 80’s. The Wax Trax! Record store was foundational to my experience in Chicago and to my ongoing success.

In all of Chicago, this building is was my number one destination. So much culture through the 80's and 90's started here, and changed my and many other's lives forever.

I discovered Wax Trax while taking a walk from Depaul University. Wax Trax changed my life. Conventional music on the radio was slowly draining my life force.

Not many stores have a touring movie made about them. Nor were many the center of a genre of music. This one did both.

Wax Trax meant so much to me as a teenager and it still does to me today. I had relocated to Chicago with my family after high school and was going to college nearby. It was a mainstay for me, somewhere as a 18 year old I could go and meet people with like interests and learn about new music in genres I enjoyed. I spent countless hours there and still remember the time I met Groovy Mann there. Preserving these cultural places is very important to people and I would love to see something great done with this space for the long term.

Waxtrax brought a genre of music across oceans and borders to my freezing Canadian hometown where weird kids who didn’t fit in could rally around a sound we called our own. I’m sure this happened all over the world thanks to a little independent record label & while it didn’t have the same significance as the blues it left an indelible mark on musical history as well.

in the 1980's living in upstate New York, buying vinyl Records, seeing the name Wax Trax! Records WAS Chicago! Sadly, I never had the opportunity to visit the store back then and always wished that I had been able to. Wax Trax! Records vinyl was always an adventure to find and purchase and seeing this building receive historic landmark status would help preserve that legacy of Wax Trax! Records with it's hometown.
