Wax Trax was an integral part of my adolescence. The musicians and art that existed inside wax trax were a community, a family, and a Chicago legacy.

Please help preserve the 2249 Lincoln Ave location as the landmark it truly is. Wax Trax Records had a huge impact all throughout the Chicago music scene, and the music scene around the world.

The building located at 2449 N. Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL (where the Wax Trax record shop was origininally opened) is definitely a part in the history of the Chicago music scene. Furthermore, it has an international resonance and should be preserved acordingly.

This edifice isn't just the site where some niche music culture had a moment of exposure, rather it is the the home base of a movement that changed the face of popular music forever.

I lived in Lakeview from the 60’s, and it’s crushing my heart to see the soul of the neighborhood being extinguished. We need to save our irreplaceable architectural elements wherever possible around the city, but especially in Lakeview where so much has been lost already. Also Wax Trax is an important landmark in its significance to modern music.

Wax Trax shaped the lives of So many chicagoans, brought revenue and recognition to our city, and is still an influence around the world in today’s electronic music. Wax Trax was- and is- a cultural heritage that deserves to be preserved! Chicago has always been proud and supportive of it’s Arts and Culture, and Wax Trax is a proven part of that community. Thank you.

The building is a significant structure as it was a gathering place for artists and community members who flocked there and ultimately led to a distinctive music “sound”, genre and culture that influenced the world music scene then, which continues to this day. It’s deserving of any place that housed the development of any popular music whether it be New Orleans jazz, Detroit R & B, Chicago Blues or Bronx Hip Hop, for example. Landmarking the building would preserve a moment of time from Chicago’s rich cultural history and acknowledge the impact the founders and owners of Wax Trax had in the community and worldwide.

Please save this piece of music history. Wax Trax changed music forever and touched so many lives. They made us weirdoes and outcasts feel like someone understood. They saved lives.
