The walkout today was so moving, let's keep the spark going. We put so much effort into technology innovation. What about humanity innovation?

Attending #WaterlooWalkout has opened my eyes to the significant problems regarding mental health not being addressed by the University of Waterloo. Nobody should have to wait six months for someone to talk to.

We need change. And the students at this University and every University, need to know that they're more than a number and UW needs to be more serious about addressing its mental health problems on campus.

Beautiful and powerful event today. Change starts with individuals like us stepping out and wanting a change. This is just the beginning.

We can not afford to wait weeks just to receive barely any treatment. We deserve better than that. If we are going to contribute to this University with our knowledge and innovation, they must give back to us.

I understand that the university is "listening", as they say anyway. But the process is slow and something needs to be done immediately. Care FIRST about student health and wellbeing. As soon as you've done that, students will naturally do better in school and co-op. Change UW into a true COMMUNITY of people helping each other succeed. Nobody needs a toxic competition environment, especially as set by many of the professors at this university. Consider making open door policy mandatory. Students should take priority over research or any other business. If your reasoning is well, tough luck, that's the world, then YOU be the first to show that the world needs to change. All I've seen is too much talk and no action. If we truly aim to be a great university, we should adopt a systems approach. Don't just focus on academics and employment, because there's more to our lives than that. Everything starts with HEALTH. Mental Health should be a top priority for this school's administration. How can people sleep at night knowing there are students who couldn't take it anymore and chose to end their lives? How can people sleep at night knowing that so many others are probably debating similar actions? It's a terrifying thought. :(

I know of family members/ friends who suffer from mental illness and how hard it can get sometimes for them. Something needs to be done on campus to stop young adults from taking their lives

Students have access to drop-in advising for job applications. What if they had access to drop-in counseling?

I think the benefits plan offered at UW needs to be reevaluated. $500 a year for mental health treatment is NOT enough. My appts run me $145/a session. that's $2000 a year, if I'm only seeing my therapist once a month (which isn't always enough). If mental health resources on campus continue to lack in the way that they do, UW will see their enrollment numbers declining. If UW wants to continue making Maclean's list every year, I suggest they start listening to their students.
No one should go through life alone
