We need more councilors. We need a culture change. We need more cohesive resources that communicate with one another so students can seamlessly get the type of help they need. We need more forgiving academics and room for failure. We need more compassionate faculty members and empathy training, especially for the STEM faculties. We need financial assistance for students seeking help off campus, and infrastructure to help them find resources off campus if they can't get what they need on campus. #InnovateEmpathy

Mental health is a priority. Not an afterthought. We need to not only address the inadequencies of health services on campus from obnoxious wait times, understaffing, and basing cases by severity, but also the toxic Waterloo culture of success and innovation over community and compassion.

As someone who struggles with mental health, and has utilized the services on campus, I encourage the University to improve on these services already offered. No one blames the school entirely, but there is always room for improvement.

"We gave developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than clevenness we need kindness and gentleness."
We need change!

This needs to change. And it starts with us.
