851 Washington Street is not a suitable location for a homeless shelter for the following reasons:
1 - This is a peaceful residential neighborhood inhabited by hard working families with children.
2 - Housing random homeless individuals that have no personal interest in the well being of the community is a safety issue to those who reside in the neighborhood.
3 - People who have made sacrifices to buy their home will see a decrease in their home values.
4 - Nearby Blue Mountain Park will attract unfamiliar foot traffic into the streets that are normally traveled by locals. The grounds of Blue Mountain would be a "hang out" for the homeless.
5 - The shelter would be at the gateway of the south end of Peekskill - a homeless shelter is not a welcoming representation of the city.

My children live 1/2 there time with their father who lives on Mckinley St. Its bad enough to have to watch their every step because of the Parole office and Westchester country cars that whiz down the street, plusthe sex offenders that have or do live in our neighborhood, but now you want to add another negative factor. Plus infiltrate Blue Mtn Park.
