I am opposed to a homeless shelter being a block and a half from our home! I have young daughters and I am fighting this for the safety of my daughters and other children in my neighborhood as well as our property values and quality of life that we have built in this community.

I have a lot of friends and family in that part of town. A shelter doesn't belong in a residential area for many reasons.

Property values will go down by at least 10% if not more. This is also in the district 3 area so I'm sure those folks were blindsided as the rest of the Westside. Those of us near Franklin park beware of drugs and drinking. Should not be placed on Washington street. Back door politics at it's best. Remember back in the 80s when it was proposed by the county for a shelter where the county currently sits. People came out and complained. The shelter never happened. We might have to do the same again.

Right in the middle of schools and playgrounds -- not a good idea. Have there been any public hearings? Has there been an Environmental Impact Statement done on this proposal?

That's an old canard, Frank--"dumping ground." We're feeding hundreds of families at Fred's Pantry each week--homelessness and hunger in Peekskill are REAL, and you can't wave it away just because it's inconvenient. What you "are told" isn't what the actual numbers are--they're rumors, and policy shouldn't be based on rumors, should it? And as far as restricting all assistance to those in "OUR AREA," well, where are you planning to build YOUR wall to keep those "others" out--like veterans and victims of domestic violence who need shelter and safety?
