This petition is to stop the City of Peekskill from Supporting a new Homeless shelter to be built at 851 Washington St, Peekskill NY 10566. The property is currently in contract to be purchased and the plan is to build up to a 50 bed homeless shelter. The location of such a facility should not be placed in the middle of a residential neighborhood; also, the current zoning of that address is C-3 commercial. The City Council would need to approve a special use permit for 851 Washington St. for use as a homeless shelter. The fact that CHHOP would purchase a building for $900,000 without approvals seems unrealistic unless they have received reassurances from the City officials that this project would be approved. We the Citzens of this community deserve a voice in what is built in our neighborhood. Please sign this petition in opposition of allowing a homeless shelter to be established on Washington St.

The lack of transparency from City Hall is concerning. We are digging into the zoning details now.

Peekskill has had open arms for many of years at the existing shelter, perhaps another local municipality would like to step up and join in! Cortlandt? Croton? Anyone else out there? Time to pass the torch.

There are abandoned multi floor buildings in the city itself that could be renovated into the needed facility for the homeless there is abundant resources in walking distance and buses to take them to White Plains. All this without impeding on residential homes.....

I’ve worked helping the homeless in NYC Parks for 29 years. This is a bad idea to place a shelter in this location. Our compassion for those who find themselves homeless can be better served in an alternative location, or at the present location using the funds to restore it!

This will decrease property value, bring higher crime rates and drug abuse to our community. After curfew these people will be roaming the streets I've been around shelters before. Houses have window bars and gates with barbed wire this is no way to live. DO NOT put it on Washington Street.

Although I do agree that a shelter is necessary in Peekskill, I strongly disagree with placing the shelter in the middle of a residential neighborhood! This location’s proximity to two elementary schools should be a major concern for the students parents and our community at large.

I grew up in that neighborhood and my father lives right next to that building and he is living alone at the age of 75. Most homeless persons are psychologically unfit. Having them near my father puts him in serious physical danger.

Many homeless people do not themselves like shelters because they are too violent and crime prone.

This just doesn't belong in a residential area! End of story! Why would anyone possibly think this location is a good idea?
