I remember how lonely I was at Warren Wilson. Even though I got to help start and work on the Diversity Team it was a token program, and I don’t know if it continued. I ended up transferring to the sister school in Charlotte because it was an HBU. I went as an exchange for a semester and couldn’t reconcile going back. I don’t know how your sister school can be an HBU but there wasn’t an exchange of ideas with that community to help their students of color feel at home. I was never at home. If future generations could avoid that feeling it could make all the difference.

As an alumn of Warren Wilson, I know how desperately the school needs institutional change to support BIPOC students, faculty, and staff. The demands being made here are really the bare minimum that Wilson could do. Thanks Bry & other members of the BSU for putting this together!!

Warren Wilson was founded on community. It’s far time we re-examine how the fostering of “community” looks, feels, sounds like and supports BIPOC. Thank you to WWCBSU for being so eloquent. Please continue letting alumni know how we can support this organization and for its demands to gain all the traction it needs to begin turning that damn wagon wheel. Xoxo

From class of 2010 with wholehearted support and deepest respect for those organizing and demanding equity for Black students.
