This smelter puts at risk our forests, water ways, soil, and environment. Located at a crossroad to year-around outdoor sports the cannot be restored if subjected to greenhouse gasses in the tonnage expected. Resist!

Please spare our pristine area from health, economic, and environmental issues. Adamantly opposed!

My family and I just purchased a home here. The fresh mountain air, views, waterways is what brought us here. It's a slice of heaven and one if the most beautiful areas in the nation. There is a place for a smelter plant, but right in the nose of our small town, hundreds of feet from residences, is not it. I believe the devastation, from pollution to homes value decrease to residents leaving, will far outweigh the few jobs it offers.

I oppose this smelter going in because of the negative health effects it will have on the families that live in the area. We just moved to Bonner county and are very frustrated by this coming in and threatening our health and the value of our land.

I will stand for a healthier community and environment today and always.

I don't want this in my back yard. I vote No!

I have lived in Newport since 1972 and d find the smelter plant a sham. There is no way the PUD should be able to rezone that property and subject the whole region to the inevitable health risks that are sure to follow if it gets built. I VOTE NO ON THE SMELTER!

PUD gives virtual free power to a multinational corporation so they can raise my rates. Thanks Colin, Mike, Karen, and Steve

There is no question that jobs are needed in Pend Oreille County. I respect and appreciate our commissioners for their concern and attempt to make a deal with a company ready to bring jobs to our area. That being said, this smelter deal comes with so many questionable downsides that I find it impossible to believe this is the right choice for us. Areas where unemployment is high are vulnerable to polluting industries who historically seek a location in an area desperate enough or uneducated enough to over look what other communities have rejected. Let's not be an easy mark. We need to be skeptical because we have so much to lose. Just for example; We have clean air. And, since it's winter...when we get in the mountains either on snowshoes or snowmobile our snow is white, not covered in some unknown particulate from emissions from local industries. We can see the stars. I could go on and on because more and more there are fewer and fewer areas as unspoiled as ours. Let's value and protect what we have and work together to find a better fit for our community.

The decision to build this smelter is shortsighted and dangerous to the health of residents and the health of our future economy as it degrades our environment and our quality of life. A foreign company, or any company with such a plan should be rejected.

This is not the place for a potentially polluting, heavy industry installation to be. Newport is just recently waking up, new businesses coming in. This does not fit with the kind of expansion and growth we're looking for. Too toxic, too risky.

Not here, where so many people live. Find an isolated location.

No smelter!

We should not be a testing ground for a Foreign Company that apparently has no idea what they are doing.

The benefit of a few jobs wouldn't begin to offset the likely degradation of the local environment and the quality of life of county residents.

This is NOT a good fit for our area. Go away from such a populated, beautiful area. A smelter is definitely not beautiful.

This is not the right location for this type of toxic industry. We will resist to the end.
