I have signed this petition and encourage everyone he receives it to sign in protest of the HiTest Silicon Smelter. We support economic growth and jobs, but not this smelter that will destroy our rural way of life.

I believe that it should not ever be built. New options are being explored to enable less toxic materials for renewable energy.

For all stated reasons, and because the drainage from this proposed project will negatively impact the Pend Oreille River as it flows downstream past my property. Only our health, our air and our water are at stake, only these most important concerns.

Do not spoil our clean air, such as it is, with this contamination to our air, health, spills. We DO NOT need or want this smelter.

I just moved to this area with a toddler. The proposed smelter raises serious health concerns. If it was built I would move somewhere else.

My husband has COPD. If this goes in, we will have to move and probably will be at a significant financial loss as we only bought our house a year ago. I'm begging you to reconsider putting this in such a heavily populated area. Lives will be impacted negatively for generations to come.

You need to build where no one lives. People, family and friends moved to the country to get away from things like this. Find a place where you won’t ruin the serenity that surrounds us!

There are no real benefits of having this monstrosity here. Everything we moved here for 11 years ago will be changed for the negitive..be it immediately or within 20 years. Please don't allow this plant here.

We all know how foggy it is here especially in the mornings in Fall and Winter. We have some strong inversions that set up here in town because of the river corridor. You think the fog is bad? Just wait for the smelter exhaust to mix in with it and sit in town all day. This will be a silent killer. This is terribly unhealthy. This is criminal.

Building a Smelter within a mile, uphill and upwind of the cities of Newport and Oldtown is unacceptable. The selected location is also above the city of Newport newly drilled water wells. The Smelter would be located within 2 miles of of 5 schools where we send our children everyday.
