This will damage the tourism industry. Also the environment. Mount Spokane employs hundreds of people, and serves over 150k of skiers and families learning how to ski every year. Also Washington State Park is the largest park in Washington and a pristine wilderness park. There are other ski resorts that will also be affected by this. My question is why this is not being done in the Seattle industrial areas already zoned for this sort of thing. Also why does Canada want to build it here instead of in Canada? Perhaps it has to do with Iceland shutting their facility down because of environmental toxicity. We the people of Eastern Washington will only gain 150 of so called 'good paying' jobs while the thousands of other employees in the tourism industry and not to mention tourists are not considered. This is a pristine area, not an industrial one, like Niagara Falls. Build it where there is already industrial infrastructure in place. Not here. The tribe doesn't want it. The people don't want it.

Renita ~ Pend Oreille County Commissioners have demonstrated a consistent disregard for truth, honesty, disclosure and respect for the residents of the county. How many times have they lied to us? Deceived us? Misrepresented their intentions? It's become so bad that every single one of these officials needs to be recalled, asap. It's clear as day they have repeatedly sought to make a end-run around laws, procedures, requirements and public input. Rather then working for us (which is what they are being paid to do), we find ourselves constantly battling them. Everyone needs to pay particular attention to their actions and words now.

Grew up in Newport, currently live in Montana near a superfund site which once was touted as the economic boon for the area. Now shut down, people realized in retrospect the vastly greater economic and intrinsic value of an intact ecosystem. We own a lake property in Pend Oreille county as well, due primarily to its pristine environment. Please consider the long term worth of the land over any short term gain from an outsider industry. Thank you.

I have a lake place at Diamond Lake and am very concerned about the impact of this facility. My research has shown that it will emit huge amounts of polutants. I really don't care that it's making solar panels and this will offset the carbon footprint. it won't offset the footprint on the air that I breath.

Lived here all my life. Our beautiful scenery, clean air (except for fire season) keeps our tourist season alive. I already have serious lung issues. I am a non-smoker. NO SMELTER! Location is right in a neighborhood in a RESIDENTIAL AREA. Build it in CANADA!

I am very upset and concerned that a company can come in and ruin a beautiful environment. We bought land to escape the pollution and being sick and now this smelter issue has postponed our building plans. Not to mention this is a Canadian company and needs keep their pollution in Canada. It’s not worth the jobs it could provide when there is so much at stake. Please hear the people's voices and not the money(greed) that will hurt a beautiful place and the people who live there. We must be the guardians of the earth and environment, it is all our responsibility. We do not want SMELTER!

I understand that Pend Oreille County is one of the poorest in the State. But having the the COUNTY in the back pocket of this development is not only sad and but another example of how large coprporations rail road local communities and push through these project. They can command large legal task forces to manipulate the local municipalities, and bend laws or in most cases turn a blinds eye to them to push forward their agenda.
Never in the history of PUD has it
Left an area environmentally better than it found it. Yes they create jobs, but at such cost that we the tax payers end up paying to clean up their messes or die from the any number of illnesses they create...
Do not be short sighted...
Do not sacrifice our beautiful lands, health, and recreation areas for corporate greed!!!
