Walden PMHNP weight grading policy

I totally agree. I am going through the same nightmare. The school need to address this issue. It is not fair to the students.

The school needs to revise their weighted grading policy. The amount of course work that is incorporated in 6670 is excessive. For them to make 2 tests 50 percent of our grades is setting us up for failure. They provide no lectures and for the tests, we are given topics of what will be covered and it is up to us to guest what we need to know. The exams do not represent what we learn in the class at all. They do not care about the success of the students. I will never recommend this school to anyone.

Completely agree. The tests are so skewed as is the grading. Something really needs to be done

I am consistently performing better on FHEA exam, Board Vitals, and Pocket Prep for PMHNP. The questions are not designed well. For example, a question about labs associated with alcoholism, except... will have all answers labs that are associated with alcoholism!

I have gotten straight A’s in every course, but the weighted exams drop my grade every time. This is disproportionate and unfair.

I am also affected by this same issue and will love the Academic panel to look into the grading.

I have had all A And one b so far. The midterm was ABSOUTLY horrible and we only recd 3 points back. ABSOUTLY not enough there is no way that you can pass everything and then 2 test will fail you. ABSOUTLY horrible.

Completely agree with all of the above comments. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

Same as the others, practically 100 in the class, passed FHEA exam, board vitals no problem, midterm-failed. Why? Read the materials, studied, and still failed miserably.

I am living this nightmare. I am scoring extremely well on board vitals and did exceptionally well on the Fitzgerald exit exam and just bombed my midterm after reading every single word assigned to me and studied as much as a could between clinical hours and a full time job.

I also dropped from a 98 to a 77. This is not how it should be in a learning institution.

It is unfair that 2 exams make up 50% of our grade. We spend hours reading the assigned material and submitting work. This is basically a self taught program. I would love to see more hands on teaching and a chance to review the exam as a class so we can learn from our mistakes. Some schools offer a time where the students can log in as a class and the teacher reviews the material, students can ask questions and actually learn from the teacher instead of the textbook!

I just finished 6660, I was doing well in the first 6 weeks with a grade of 100 after the midterm exam my grade dropped (-17 points). It was stressful to think of what will happen in the final exam. It is true you could not go back or check answers in the test questionnaire to find out how you missed the correct answer. I hope the school could find ways to help the students. I am now concerned about what is going to be in class 6670. It is alarming to find that some students have to repeat the class because of grades that were brought down due to the weight of the midterm and final exams. A lot of time( so many sleepless nights) and money is being spent in school. What has been stated by the students is true.

These exams are not representative of the information and reading assigned. Plus, they are very unrealistically weighted. Walden should really examine who they are hiring to write the exam. It definitely is not the professors.

Test designed to fail students

The exams are weighted too heavily. There is little to no guidance on what to study. Usually, the study guide says which chapters will be covered. You can’t go back and change answers. The questions are sometimes the length of a paragraph and two hours is not enough time to take the test, especially if you have slow internet service. After spending days studying for exams and then failing, it is demoralizing to day the least, when you see your grade drop from a solid A to a low C.

I agree with the petition.

We pay thousands of dollars for our education, we receive little to no instruction or guidance, and we are all determined, high-achieving students. The unrealistic questions, that are not similar to the board certification questions and are weighted so heavily, set each and every student up for failure. When students are achieving high scores in every other area of the course and two exams can destroy their grade, something is wrong on Walden’s part. We implore you to make adjustments that are fair and reasonable. No one is asking for easy or a pass! Just fair and reasonable!

Students pay Walden a lot of tuition and it should tell Walden that something is very wrong when students do so well on assignments but then the vast majority fails the exams. The weight should not be so high that a student drops from an A to a C or D from an exam. It’s time for a change to be made! Make Walden a better program with the students best interests in mind.
